Cracked 296 Wheel - Again !!!

Hi all

I know there's been a fair bit of chat about this but I'm now facing into having to replace my THIRD cracked wheel in only 23,000 miles of ownership of the car.

Does anyone have any advice on the position to take with BMW on getting them to cover the cost. I read that sometime they do and sometimes they don't !

(NB - I switched to non runflats about 10000 miles ago)

Would really value any tips from anybody who has successfully got BMW to cover the cost of wheel replacement

Cheers

Simon

In the USA, as you probably know, there was a class action lawsuit that replaces the wheels under certain circumstances. I can't believe BMW does not have the integrity to take care of this serious safety issue for everyone. Try googling bwm cracked wheels for more info. Also search the forums. there are many posts about this.
BMW was voted the most highly thought of company world wide ahead of Apple and everyone else. Don't give up.

Though there are euro members here, myself included. I would suggest posting over at z4-forum.com. It is a UK based Z4 forum which has a strong UK base. I am sure they are willing and able to help

Hi,

I have had also a cracked 296 rear wheel 3,5 years ago. Since last monday the replacement wheel losses also pressure (1 bar in 3 days). I will have it checked by my dealer. So still no conclusion that the second one is also cracked, but I am afraid that this is the case.

Does anyone know if BMW Europe has become more willing to compensate 296 owners who have issues? 3 years ago they stated there was no issue with the wheel and the revised version had nothing to do with mechanical issues.

EdP

UPDATE: my tire had a nail in it. Lucky me

If you buy replacement 296's the rear wheels were redesigned to make them more robust.

I haven't had to replace my tires since I found the cracks the first time around and bought the redesigned wheels from BMW. I'm hoping that I don't find out that these have also cracked when I go to replace the rears next.
