2009 Owners Manual and Voice Activation

As the books were missing from my car, the dealer supplied me with a brand new pack.

In the manual it describes the voice control commands for everything, including the navigation.

One of the commands 'enter address' I tried... nothing. I entered that section manually, and spoke the address out loud as per the manual, nada.

So I'm wondering if the systems in 2010 builds had more voice activation features than my 2009 model?

Does anyone have a 2009 manual, if so, does it mention the ability to enter the address vocally etc in navigation, or is it a very limited list of commands?

Thanks for the link, but I get a page not found on the 2009+ z4 link. The BMW website does have the manual, but I wonder if that may have been updated for 2010/2011 builds.

*edit: I've found an online link after a little googling for a 2009 idrive z4, it looks the same (other than mine is UK) and lists voice commands like 'enter address'.. which in my car opens the office messages! lol

Perhaps it does have the functionality... but is just a bit rubbish?

I have pdf's of the 2009 US version w/ and w/o iDrive. I PM'd you if you still need them.

Cheers

Maybe it got something to do with your English accent??? That is the voice processor is not recognizing your English tone???

lol perhaps if I had some odd english accent, but I've travelled quite a bit so I'm quite accent-less most of the time (a few beers down me, thats another story!).

I've discovered what it was.. its context sensitive, for example, if I'm on the Map in Navigation.. I have to say 'Navigation' and then 'Enter address'. I thought I could just say 'Enter Address' on the Map screen... you can't. I have to say that the BMW manual is less than intuitive on this topic, but ultimately its about me understanding the fundamentals of how it works.

I've found a huge list of commands online, so I'll be spending a little geek time sat in the car talking to her to understand exactly how to operate it to get the most from it!

I haven't spent a lot of time learning all the different voice commands. The few times that I have tried to use voice commands iDrive seemed very confused. Now I have to say I was trying in the summer time when the top was down so that might have been part of the problem. But when you tell it CD track 1 you wouldn't expect it to dial your home number.
