Torque increase, silver side view mirror caps, color matched rear diffuser instead of black like in 35i M Sport.

Lots of little things as mentioned above. Also, if you option a 35i with the M-sport package, the gap is narrowed.

Biggest difference IMO: You can't get a 35is with manual gearbox

I agree. I will only drive manual as long as they stay in production.

serious question...

Does the exhaust on 6MT cars pop and crackle on overrun (i.e. rev the car up then release the throttle?) and pop when upshifting?

I targeted the DCT and didn't bother to try the manual but am curious as to the differences

Pops, burps, farts, rumbles and gurgles. It's how the exhaust is tuned, not the kind of tranny you have. I love it!

upshifting pop is from the timing being pulled briefly during the DCT upshift. pretty awesome that is also there in the 6MT

Go with the 35i and M Sport Package. I personally think the manual stick is more fun to drive even if I have to pay more to order through Germany because you can hardly find a 35i M sport package on manual in US with the color u want and the interior u want.

That's what he is saying he has to do. But it's more costly because he can't get a big discount on a built car on the lot that has been sitting for ages

In addition to the aforementioned mirror caps, rear diffuser, HP & brakes, the following options are also different:

The IS is unavailable in the following paint colors:
Orion Silver Metallic
Jet Black
Crimson Red

Additionally, the 19" wheel option on the IS is style 326. The 19" wheel option on the I is style 296.

Also, don't think I saw it mentioned, but the exhaust note on the IS is specific to it and differs from the other models in the lineup.

You can, but specifically regarding the IS (NOT the 28 or 35), you need a great dealer. Most dealers do not have them in inventory, and there aren't many allocations. If your dealer does not have an allocation, they'll have to find one at another dealer, and that can be both difficult and time consuming. You may find that some dealers aren't willing to go the extra mile to find an allocation. Luckily, this was not my experience, I have a terrific dealer here that has both great sales and service departments (one of the few).

Top of my head only - isn't premium sound an option on the 35i?
