First Flat Tire, Fixable or should I swap to new tires?
Driving to work this morning and noticed an unfamiliar vibration. got off the highway immediately and the vibration got worse with the tire pressure monitor indicating a flat tire.
I was about 1kms away from work at that point, and decided to continue slowly and pull into the parking lot. Now the left rear tire looks completely flat. I don't have a inflation kit handy, but I'm tempted to try to re-inflate it at the gas station across the road and see where the leak is. At this point should I expect to have a shop maybe repair and patch the tire, or just toss it away and swap a new tire on? I'm running on Yokohama AD08 about 65% tread left. If I do swap new, do I need to swap all four corners? Thanks for helping out!

if you drove it with no air, I would replace. I think just the single one is fine. We don't have AWD so the rotational diameter is not that big of a deal.
At most it might be worth doing the same "axle" (i.e. replace both front or both rear) |

Once you take it to the shop, they'll dismount it and let you know right away if it's good or bad. Thinking that you drove about 1KM to your work, even though the outside looks good, the heat created from the deflated tire probably turn the inside sidewall into mini-chunks of rubber and metal shavings = new tire.
One should be good, but if anal, at least replace the same axle. |

there is no way to know if you need to replace itor not without dismounting the tire. I suspect that if you drove on it flat then it is toast. I would at least replace the two tires on the front or rear of the car that was affected and save the other one as a spare if you choose.
I always have a spare tire in my garage just in case. I even have a full set of spent RFTs in my garage just in case. I think I am becoming a horder now that i said that.

haha. you guys are right. my tire is toast. its bad enough that the inner wall was shredded way before i can do anything to save it. i had bmw roadside assist hook me up with a flatbed, and towed the car to a dealership closeby.
guess ill be putting my winter set on early this year. new tires are so expensive! ive only used my current ad08 for over 1 year. to replace all4 would cost almost 1400.

Didn't buy the warranty. The blown tire was not BMW Stock tires anyways.
So the bmw roadside assist towed the car to BMW Autohaus dealer, and the service rep asks me if I have an apointment, I said no and she refused to help me at all. said to leave the car there until they have time to schedule me. Also told me that all the appointments were booked 2 weeks ahead and they can't accommodate me. They also refused to give me a loaner vehicle. All I needed was a tire swap, my new tire is already on the rim it will take them less than half an hour to unmount 4 corners and remount the 4 new wheels. but NO. so I called BMW roadside again to arrange the car to be towed to a different dealer, Town&Country BMW. No hassle at all, they were very quick to accommodate, and had the car back to me in a few short hours, Washed too! I know which dealer I will take my next purchase to now.
