Newbie Question. Need some help

Hey guys, considering a z4. Just sold my 135i. A manual tranny is a MUST HAVE for me. I am looking at a 2010 or 2011 Z4. I cant decide between the 30i and the 35i. Does the 35i come in manual tranny? And which do you guys prefer. I really enjoyed the speed my 135i had. And wanna have that relative speed. Thanks guys

Sounds like the 35i 6MT is the vehicle for you. The DCT is the only option on the 35is, but with the 35i, you can have your manual.

They come in 6spd manuals. I have the 30i and it is tuned to about 300hp. (Stock is 255hp)

With the 35i, you get tune up the boost and make it a lot faster.

I personally wish I bought the 35i since there are much more mods and you get boost. =] but that's just my $0.02.

I think Z430i straight line speed is about the same as 128. You''ll need to ask yourself how much you will miss the extra power in the 135

I was in the same boat before purchasing the z. Never had owned a non manual car before and I was pretty sure that I was getting another manual. All I can say is the dtc in 35i/is is a blast. It is very very good. I would say much better than Porsches pdk. (I'm sure some will disagree)

Anyways give it a try, you may like it as well. Dtc, 35i and ess are great together.

If you are coming from a 135i, I would suggest heading straight over to the 35i to not lose out on power you were accustomed to. Plus turbos are easier to gain more power on than NA with same amount of money.

35i manual here. fantastic power! and i have recently upgraded to stage 2. I think the 35 is a must have if you are coming from 135.

Before you make up your mind, drive both a DCT and Manual. The arguments rage on various posts as to which is better, but its all personal preference. I wasn't sure about the DCT when I bought mine, but doing a lot of commute driving, I was a bit weary of constant clutch work and the DCT is far superior to a standard auto. At full blast, the near instant changes smack your head into the headrest. There are times however that I feel I could be in more control with a Manual. Still prefer the DCT for what I use the car for though.

I agree 100000%. The DCT is the best of both worlds. Really allows comfy, easy going cruise, or getting by in traffic, and with a push of the button, and slide of the shifter the car is quicker and more responsive. The DCT flexibility will change your views on manual only

Thanks for the responses guys! Now I want a car with the M-Sport package. But they seem very hard to find. Whats the difference in the sport and non-sport?

The magazines claim that both Z430i and 128i trap the 1/4 mile at around 97mph but you would know best for sure.

After driving a 135i you'll never be happy with the 30i, so forget about it, and go for 35i.

Love my 35i 6spd.
I agree with those saying test drive the DCT as well... but don't settle if it's not what you want.
Save the manuals!

Hey OP, there are threads around for sport vs. non sport. For the E89 the key differences are sport has adaptive sport suspension and sports seats.

Also, FWIW, my loaner car today is a 2013 135 m sport DCT and I would highly recommend the Z435i or not getting the E89 at all.

Why do you say that? Is the drive for the z4 that different?
