Scratches on Hood
Looks like someones keys got my front hoot, the scratches are showing white and i have a black car. Is there anyway to fix this without having to get the hood repainted, does a method even exist to get rid of scratches?

Re:
Rule of thumb is if the scratch can be caught with your finger nail you will need a paint job.
If not then the clearcoat can been machined polished. Some scratches can even been wetsanded back and then polished. You can buy scratch removers but without a proper machine and pads the remover can only remove light scratches by hand. Best get it looked at by a detailer to start with. You will be surprised at the stuff these guys can put right. |

Paint and clearcoat are so thin it doesn't take much to scratch right through them. They typically measure about 8 mils thick - 8/1000". I feel for you...I'd be bumming big time.

Someone key-scratched the trunk of my Z, i went to the dealership and a paintshop and they both told me since you can see the primer (the white stuff under the paint) you need to repaint the whole trunk. I hope your's isnt as bad as mine is.

Very sorry that someone did that to your car. Hope you can get it fixed up as good as new.
