Cool M Sport Steering Wheel for 35i Owners?

I've been trying to find out more info regarding changing my 35i steering wheel to the M Sport Steering Wheel (also on the 35is).

Called my BMW dealer and they said they are not sure it will fit or not.

Looks like the air bag and shift paddles (DCT) can be retained from the 35i wheel (same part numbers).
The only different part numbers are the steering wheel and the 3 multifunction buttons/covers.

35i Wheel:

M Sport/35is Wheel:

Anyone tried doing this or any ideas?

The only difference I see is the M emblem on the bottom of the wheel. Why not just purchase an M emblem, and just slap it on there, and save the time, aggrivation and cost of switching wheels?

I agree. Don't see any difference. Supposedly the M wheel is thicker - making it better? Not sure about that, my M Coupe had I guess an M steering wheel and I don't see a big difference other then the cute m logo

There's your mistake... You called the wrong people.

The steering wheel is the same the only difference is black plastic with M emblem and aluminum look plastic with no emblem.

just find the plastic trim and you'll be set.

The steering wheels look very similar, so can you confirm that the M Sport wheel is thicker or not? Thanks.

I want a M Sport steering wheel to match the M Sport bumpers, door sills and dead pedal I just purchased. When I ordered my Z4 when they were just released, they didnt offer the M Sports Package yet.

Can anyone else there with a 35is confirm if the wheel is thicker?

You live in a different country, but over here, the steering wheel in a 35is is a bit thicker than the standard wheel across the rest of the range.

It does fit and the M-steering wheel is thicker than the standard one, it's also another kind of leather (Iguess Nappa).

The bottom cover with the M-emblem is included but I've read somewhere that the two other covers (with the buttons) aren't and there is no separate partnumber for them??? If this is really true it sucks big time, don't think it will look nice... You better check this out before you order!!

The paddles and airbag are the same and fit perfectly.

Just checked out the 35is my dealer received. The steering wheel is indeed slightly thicker.

The steering wheel to swap in is the instrumented M3 wheel BMW sells. If anyone has done this successfully, pls speak up.

The M cover is not plastic.Is leather and according to bmw you can not put it to the old wheel.The true is that you can put it with out mods and cost here in greece 130 euro.I already put it.

Here is a picture of both steeringwheels that was posted on a German forum :

left = M
right = Standard

The M is slightly thicker and the structure of the leather is clearly different

The M-Steering is thicker and requires the lower M steering trim for the retro fit. Now I am not sure if the increased thickness of the steering will affect the left/right multibutton trim as well tho.

I have all the p/n in our system (Thanks to Tischer BMW) and when my stock one is wearing out I'll be order this M one for sure.

The non-paddle version is more expensive FYI.
