Pothole..

I have the thread wheel that is prone to cracks/bends, i think it's called style 296?

I hit a pothole last night, around 40mph

I saw it too late so i couldn't get out of the way, so my front right wheel hit it

it wasn't crazy hard, and if this was in my m3, i wouldn't think anything of it, but I've heard of how weak these wheels are

any idea(s) on what I should do to check it etc??

Thanks a bunch

o and car drives perfectly normal

leave it alone unless u see a bubble on the tire or feel vibration when driving. even though they are weak, with rough suspension it may feel worse then it really is

Keep an eye on your tire pressure for that wheel. If you loose air pressure then ask a tire shop to put your car on to a lift then have them clean up the outer inner wheel rim and look for a hairline crack in that area (if there is a crack it would run in the direction to the center of your wheel)

Good luck

PS. yes our M3 has forged wheels and that gives piece of mind.

Like others have mentioned, just keep an eye on it-- check the pressure and lookout for bulges.

However keep in mind, these forums can make all of us paranoid! I had the 296s on my '09 Z4, and I too would worry after hitting a pothole--and I hit a few major filling-droppers! But I never had any issues with them, and yes, I would check them with a fine-tooth comb when I switched them out for my winter setup.

Again, these forums are great. But I've never read a thread about "My TPMS Haven't Gone Off In 13 Months And I Have The 296s!"

Agree with the comments to watch your tire pressure. Sometimes cracks manifest themselves in slow leaks that can cause your TPM system to alert you in one to two week intervals.

I have 296 wheels and have cracked five(!) of them over the course of 2.5 years - all on mild and not so mild SoCal potholes. And, yes that means I've cracked and replaced the same wheel more than once.

Use the many comments on this board to compel your BMW dealership to support replacing cracked 296 wheels as "goodwill". Worked for me on more than one occasion.

The bottom line is the 296 wheels look great IMO, but are not built robust enough for real-world roads.
