Wow, I must say that this new Z4 looks the part. The old model did nothing for me, very disjointed styling in my opinion, but this, wow! Did "Bungle" have anything to do with this? Going to be very hard now to choose between this and other convertibles.

Agree! Still waiting for someone to post what color blue that is. Looks especially good with the 5 spoke wheels, which I believe are the 19" style 276.

I love the styling / interior.

At 3400+ lbs, this is a pig compared to the previous generations. The old roadster / coupes weighed just around ~3050-3100. Granted, this one has another 45 horse power -- but I'm not sure if that's really enough to make up the difference in weight.

And if there's really no M version of the car, that's just epic fail. At 3400 lb, I'd probably rather have the Saturn Sky Redline.

Umm, I think you got that backwards. The old Z's design and look was very polarizing but had a hardore fan base due to it's agressive styling. You didn't see much women driving it like you would an SLK. This new Z is meant to attract a larger segment of buyers that's why it is less of a raw sports car or roadster and more heavy and luxurious cruiser. In other words, lots more chicks and hairdressers will be seen driving around in the new Z with their starbucks in their hands.

Thanks much Jason. I'll check the link out. The weight figure is a bit of a bummer. The current M Roadster checks in a 3197lb. But, it 35i engine has big horses. Still, the current M Roadster also has big horses. I am going to check out the gearing.

Edit: Here are my results of checking.

6-Speed Gear Ratios: i35 vs 2008 M-Roadster

1st 4.055 4.35
2nd 2.396 2.50
3rd 1.582 1.67
4th 1.143 1.23
5th .0867 1.00
6th .681 .85
Diff 3.64 3.62

HP: i35 vs 2008 M-Roadster
300/5800 330/7900

TQ : i35 vs 2008 M-Roadster
300/1400 262/4900

Interesting contrast. I’d have to know more about the torque curves, but given the weight advantage of the M Roadster, it looks to me like the M will come out on top.

Wow, you're epic fail. Just like ANY BMW ever launched the ///M version will come later — even if upper management vehemently denies the need for an ///M version (just like with the E85 where they denied the ///M's existence until the very end).

Z4 has moved up market just like the E90/E92. If you want a lightweight nimble roadster wait for the Z2 — or go support the flailing US auto industry. Totally fine by me!

///M Z4 roadster / coupe excepted, the vast majority of Z4 drivers are women — who also happen to love the 2.5i (and it's god awful black headlight inserts).

The new Z4 will appeal to them, just like it did with the previous car and with the Z3. Polarizing design or not, women are attracted to this car because of its size and because it is a convertible...

naw....i think this new design is WAY more aggressive styling than the old.....BY FAR!!!...check your eyesight!!!!
Luxury cruizer??....0 to 60 in 5 sec!!!....thats some serious cruizin!!!
remember the listed weight includes fuel and driver...so its not that much heavier...the additional weight is mostly the hardtop.....lets not jump to conclusions and saying its a weight pig and see what it does around the track....everyone may be surprised with its lat G's and slalom speed....
until then...enjoy your low fat latte!

I would agree that the Z4 E86 Coupé had a very masculine appearance. Considering that the new E89 Roadster was designed by a woman I am not in the least bit surprised that some of the raw testosterone dripping energy of the original has been lost. But it looks ok for a Roadster, it never stood a chance in challenge the E86 Coupé for the Sexiest Title.

But then again having said all that, the BMW E85 Roadster which the new E89is a direct replacement for never grabbed my attention as much as the Coupé version of the same model.

Wait, wait, wait. Listen to what you are saying...

It can't be raw and aggressive because it's designed by a woman? Uh, sexist much?
