The MORR MonoForged line is always a good choice.

Feel free to PM or email me at cal@**********.com for more info!

I just went through the same thing. I opted for the new design 296s and went with Continental DWS 225 - 35 Front / 265 - 30 Rear.

I chose the tire because of price and availability. So far I'm very happy with it. Vast improvement over RFTs.

There has been speculation on new designed 296s, but there hasn't been official release information on this has there? How do you know you have (and if there even was) a newly designed 296s? I've seen a post about someone comparing a replacement wheel he got to an old one, but this is speculation and anecdotal at best in my opinion. Just curious, as when I was looking for new wheels I really liked the 296s' design but steered far away due to the issues.

Thread in question - Post 22 http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=643047

I printed that out and called my service adviser and said that I am willing to buy a set of new rears but I want to inspect the set before I agree to buy them.

I just told him that there was a wheel design update to correct the 296 wheel design specifically because it was prone to cracking. I also said that there was no new part number for this. He didn't question me, agreed to order a set and I would only pay for them if I was satisfied that they were the update.

When they arrived the dealer called me and I compared my old cracked wheels to the new ones. The new ones had a thicker lip on the inner side just like the pictures in that thread show. The service adviser and manager were dead quiet. I then went into the managers office and demanded a discount because the crack was due to poor design and not any road imperfections.

Manager admits that even he didn't know about the update. To me that just means I can do his job better than he does. I get a $250 discount on a $2000 bill; barely enough to buy some peanuts at Costco.
