Brought my car in for the noisy in tank fuel pump....

I dropped my car off this morning for the noisy, humming rear fuel pump that was noticeably loud at idle or low speeds. I received a call from my service advisor and it was a bad fuel pump. They are over-nighting a new fuel pump for me. My car should be as good as new and back home sometime tomorrow.

Did your SA say the diagnostics threw a code, or was the replacement done simply because the tech heard the pump hum?

My SA just called to let me know that my car won't be ready until mid morning tomorrow.

I asked him what the determination was for replacing the pump, diagnostic error code or the humming and he said the humming. He stated that at some point, it would fail. He also mentioned that there is a BMW bulletin stating this rear in tank fuel pump problem as more Z4's are surfacing with this issue.

That's good to know as ours is intermittant with 2000 miles but destined to only get worse.

Wish we had a copy of that BMW service bulletin. Would make a nice post for this site.
