I was at buttonwillow yesterday and wanted to use that as an opportunity to contribute to this thread.

Unfortunately, my stock E89 Z435 kept going into power reduction, so by the time I got clear of traffic to make a try for a hot lap the car was basically a non turbo car

I don't think you will be seeing any E89 contributions to that thread out of this forum, since I don't think anyone on here has gone with an aftermarket oil cooler (definitely a must have to make the Z435 usable at the track)

Interesting, plenty of 135/335i both in n54 and n55 trims as well as 6mt/DCT/tiptronic on tracks so don't think it'd be any different for e89's. I've seen 2 e89's on tracks but granted it was cooler weather (Poconos and Watkins in the fall). Are you using a tune?

It was 85-90F in the desert yesterday and if memory serves, poconos doesn't have as many chances for sustained WOT in 3rd and 4th gear as buttonwillow (it was many years ago when I rode it, on a ninja, so I don't recall very well).

There was a 135 that also went into limp mode yesterday. I didn't have a chance to poll all the N54/N55 owners present to check on whether they had aftermarket oil coolers or limp mode. Personally, I think in SoCal due to the track layouts and ambient temps it is a matter of when, not if, there is limp mode for an N54 car

I did briefly experiment with Cobb Stage 1 "sport" map (100 octane mixed with the CA 91 octane) and it was complete waste of time. Once the oil temp hit 280F (2 laps?) the car would throw P2ABC and p3100 codes and go into limp mode. I think with an aftermarket oil cooler and FMIC it might be workable, but with stock oil cooler and FMIC I wouldn't recommend it

For the stock tune, it didn't throw a CEL but the power reduction was extremely noticeable.. to give you an example, at the start of the session, I was seeing ~112mph at the end of the front straight then by the middle it was down to ~100mph and at the end of the session it was pretty pointless to be on the track and I was barely able to redline 3rd gear.. (i.e.~90mph) down the straight

EDIT: for what it is worth, yesterday it seemed like a E89 35i is similar to a 996 C2 in terms of pace. There was another driver in the same situation as me.. experienced at other tracks, first time running 13CW layout at Buttonwillow, and we were evenly matched. When it isn't overheating, Z435 pulls a bit harder on the straights, and the 996 C2 can start to get the power down a bit earlier exiting corners.
