How am I the only one who favors nudie jeans over all of those ?

Mind you, they are not flattering if you're "round"- but for you svelte/low body fat fellas- you should really look into them

Look at the brands some people are wearing, they've probably never heard of yours.

Not many people have ever stepped foot in a Barneys when True Religion is right next door!

I know if I were looking for jeans and a small TR boutique was on the street next door to the entrance to a multi-floor Barney's, I'd damn sure try to find something in the TR store before I put myself through "overload" looking at all the stuff that's going to be between Barney's front door and the jeans I'm specifically seeking. I don't generally care for large stores....they just have too much stuff. I find it easier to pick something when there are fewer to choose from, especially when any one of them will be just fine. LOL

That said, I like Barney's, quite a lot in fact, but I'm still not going inside one if there's a little shop next door that has exactly what I want.

All the best.

Thank you for sharing that! I could not agree more with Dr. Schwartz's comments, all of them from beginning to end!

I had not seen that TED talk, but I could have given it myself, as could several of the key people from my formative years, albeit far less authoritatively as neither they nor I is a psychologist and didn't conduct the studies he did in order to do so. Watching the video, I was reminded that growing up there were four axioms that I heard repeated from multiple people -- people as different from one another as the my parents, household staff, my nanny, other relatives, and teachers -- with very different lives who were role models and mentors for me. To a person, in one way or another, each of them summarized Dr. Schwartz' comments as follows:
  • In all you do, don't let the good be the enemy of the best.
  • If isn't broke, don't fix it.
  • If it doesn't fit, don't force it.
  • Do you and you'll do fine; just be yourself.
Sure as I'd heard those truisms repeatedly throughout my youth, it wasn't until I was somewhere in my mid 20s or so that their full meaning sunk in. There's a lot of metaphor in those sayings, so it takes some living to "connect the dots," to say nothing of after having done so actually acquiring the life experiences that allow one to actually believe the verity of all in the aggregate.

Ironically, the events that helped effect in my brain the significance of those axioms were the circumstances leading up to and following the purchase, not of a pair of jeans, but a watch, although a pair of jeans could well have achieved the same end.

To close, again, I thank you, PoorLurker, for sharing Dr. Schwartz' discussion with me. I didn't know about his text, but I'm going to read it. I suspect it'll be enlightening and entertaining too.

All the best.

I hate jeans, always feel heavy and bulky compared to office pants or casual pants.

I understand, but I don't mind the heft/bulk as much as you do. I have a pair of linen jeans from John Varvatos. They don't have that heavy feeling. They aren't from Varvatos' most current collection, but he does have linen jeans in his current collection. You can find them at Bloomingdale's (http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/p...125&cadevice=c)

Even not going with linen, Varvatos' jeans aren't heavy feeling in comparison, say, to True Religion, Levis, Gucci and other major makes. Quite the opposite. They are designed to develop that "worn out" look. The material he uses is generally quite thin and several of them are thin weaves of blended cotton and linen, which cuts down on the bulky feeling and speeds the wearing out process.

All the best.

I'll complain about the opposite, WTF is it with everything going "slim fit" ffs? If I have a 38 waist it's not because I am a slim fit!! i don't want baggy but this trend of super tight everything is just fucking asinine.

Pants especially are a cunt, because the distance from the crotch to the waist is incredibly short so you have to wear them REALLY low then the ass gets baggy. Fucking stupid.

I have a few 501s, but since I'm pushing 50 now, they don't seem to work. Button flys suck now that I need to go a little sooner/more urgently than before.

My go to is the 569 Levis. Plenty of room for my commando balls, the thighs aren't squeezing off circulation to my ankles, and when I ride my motorcycle they flap in the wind rather nicely.
