Turo/rentals, another way to feed the passion?

So I've posted before about how I really don't have any passion for the m240i I recently got. It's a fun car and I do enjoy it, but I don't have have thing for it, that makes you look back at it as you walk away and then lust after the next drive

I got the car as a form of domestic compromise, as my spouse drives the car as well and we live in a condo and only have one spot. I wanted an f type coupe R, but she thought it was too big (difficult to park), noisy, expensive (poor depreciation), and impractical (no back seats and no storage capability).

I was whining to a buddy about this and he had an interesting idea. He said why not just rent various cars off turo every few weeks or so to feed the passion. He also pointed out that I have carswitchitis disease and so would probably get tired of the jag within 3 months anyways...the turo thing would give me the variety that would feed my illness

Any thoughts on this from this enthusiast community, anyone tried this?

It’d be a great way to find the next passionate drive for you, but as far as a permanent solution I don’t think it’d be financially feasible since your wife’s concern was expense for the jag.

Yea I agree with the above post. Turo is good if you travel and need a car, you don't own a car, want to randomly rent a high end car a couple times a year tops or to help you find the next car you want to buy. I wouldn't use it too frequently as it's not financially smart. It's gonna cost $100+ per day depending on what you want to rent and the area you live in.

The jag would have cost me about $6000 more per year than the m240i...

I would only do the turo thing once a month, may, June, July and August...looks like it will cost me about $500 a pop (for a 2 day rental on mid range cars like c63, older 911's)...

that's only $2000, much less than the additional cost of the jag and less than adding 19's to the m240i...

I think the wifey can live with that

I will give it a shot, just wondering if anyone else has tried something similar as a way to feed the enthusiast monster and whether it's a viable long term solution...

If you have the money, why not? You won't be saddled with another payment, you can rent as often as you like...

I rented through Turo many times after I sold my Escalade and before I has purchased my BMW. It was fun to drive a different car each time and a great way to feed the passion that you're talking about. If you're doing this more than 4 or 5 times, this can add up quickly though. Depending how often you're doing it, and what kind of cars you're renting, it can quickly reach into 4 figures after 4 or 5 rentals.

I would recommend trying it out and see for yourself how you like it. That's really the only way to know if it's something that you'll enjoy.

My only real piece of advice I have for people renting on Turo: Read the reviews FIRST on the car you plan on renting. Most owners are cool and don't have any issues, but I do come across reviews from time to time that have issues with the person they rented the car from. Do your due diligence and you'll love the fact that you can rent so many amazing cars at a solid price (and a lot of times even with short notice).

That's pretty cheap. Which city did you rent in?

That’s surprising actually, but maybe there are more to choose from so the prices are more competitive. I wanted to see what my truck and car would go for and the 2er is around $115-140 depending on the day and month. My truck is $135-160 (understandably).

Summary of my experience.
Booked a 7er for Oktoberfest in Monterey. While getting our luggage if carousal I got a call saying the owner cancelled. Turo made no attempt to make up for it. Customer service straight sucked. Luckily Enterprise came thru with an Expedition to lug our stuff around, but ruined some of the Oktoberfest experience not being in a BMW like everyone else.
Won't use them, won't recommend them.
