28i 302BHP!!!

Hi All,

Well I installed an JB4 on the 28i, and did not know what she would do - as all the dynos have been on 328i none what i have seen on an z4.

However I would say this is no 35i!!! as since I have come from an 335i it is not compariable

Map 1
Shell Nitro Fuel

Hope you guys find this interesting

Any idea what the estimate is at the wheels, instead of the estimate at the crank?

Either way, +60 crank hp never hurt anyone

Hi

Took it back to the rolling road today, and it was quite an warm day - so I do not know if that caused the drop off on the BHP?

As said previously its not an 335i or 35i - but I believe this is more an true reflection of the car.

Awesome, buddy, are you using MAP1 or MAP2 in the dyno? Any other mods?

MAP1
No other engine Mods - only cosmetic

I do believe this is an more true picture of the Z4 28i - as Its not an 35i better - but it will keep up

Nice!
I remember reading on N54tech that 4th gear is to be used for hp figures if you want to compare apples-apples online. Maybe search that bms site for dyno stories.

Hey BBQ : if im not planning on any bolt ons do you think there is any point buying the JB4 over the N20 stage 1 tune as it appears to produce the same gains ?

Anyone else have any thoughts on this ?

Well the benefit of the JB4 is easy to remove - only extra i might fit will be an induction kit

not going for catless down pipes or anything else - keeping as it is.

HI guys,

Ok, educate me because I know very little about these things.

I have a stock 2014 Z4 28i.

I read that the JB4 is easy to install. Can a novice really install it?

My car produces 254 horses stock. How much more power can I expect from the JB4?

I don't want to install anything else (mechanical like coolers, or intakes) because this is a lease. So, by installing this JB4, is it reversible? Can I remove this tuner and drive the car to the dealer for service with no concerns for warranty issues?

If I purchase a JB4, selling in the US for about $300... and install it myself, do I need to bring it to a Dyno Tune place?

I know some of these questions may seem elementary, but I know little about tuning more power from an engine.

Thanks guys.

another question

Should I choose a different product/tuner than the JB4? The Dinan website doesn't have anything for my car.

It's easy to install and should not leave any evidence of its prior presence when you remove it. It will add significant power even without any "bolt on" modifications like intakes or intercoolers.

Assuming you can install the JB4 yourself, you do not need to take the car to a shop unless you want to see empirical evidence (in the form of dyno data) that the JB4 is having an effect on the car.

I don't see any reason to go with anything other than a JB4.

Not sure. You could try contacting some of the board sponsors (check the "Sponsor" section of the marketplace). Otherwise, you can't go wrong going through Burger Tuning directly.

Follow Up:

I bought the N20 JB Stage 1 tuner from BMS. Fast shipping and product looks nice.

I installed it tonight. A bit more difficult, as they show the N54 engine in all their pictures. So the install location and plugs weren't exactly as depicted in their PDF install guide.

Also, the unit is clearly not waterproof. The Z4 does not have the same covers which would otherwise protect the unit. So I'll need to go buy a rubber bag and zip tie it around the unit. Otherwise, the unit may get wet from driving thru puddles.

I did not get any CEL (Check Engine Lights) once install was done. I notice a difference driving hard. It's not huge, but noticeable.
-Comfort mode and driving normally, I couldn't tell a difference.
-Sport Mode, the wheels spin upon acceleration, thats new and fun.
-Sport + hasn't been tested yet. Too much traffic. Another follow up coming tomorrow.

I saw that Dinan has a new N20 Tuner for the z4 28i... but it's just coming out this week. No prices or available dates as of yet. It's not a piggyback system so they claim it's better for your car. (see their videos explaining why on their site).

I'll hold my judgment until a few more drives with this car. I won't dyno the car, so I'll believe that the extra HP is there.

update...

OK, drove a lot more today.

Comfort Mode - she's a bit more responsive under acceleration.

Sport Mode - look out. I'm driving a M3. (exaggerated.)

Sport + - I'll need new tires very soon. I can take on the world.

So in scientific terms, the power boost is really noticeable. This car really woke up.

Cheers

You can install the JB4 unit into the fuse box.
There's reserved whole on the fuse box. And it's waterproof then.

Hello, I installed the BMS Stage 1 in my Z4 sDrive28i 2012 Steptronic, I made the logeo with cable BMS Data and drive no more than 17 psi, and manufactures the ecu mark maximum 14 psi, in its Z4 28i is equal? F30 328i seems to have more boost factory.
Another thing, I do not notice the speed q in sport + mode wheelspin, you notice it?
That transmission mount?
Thank you.

There did the logeo with DATA BMS cable and maximum strip 19 psi before he was reading data from the OBD via ELM327 and Torquepro, but Jon (BMS) said that data from the OBD are not real because the BMS tricks the ECU.
Still can not get to skate or wheels skidding out of stand, you have steptronic?
Thank you
