Alarm system question

My car has an alarm system. When the car is locked the red "clown nose" is not blinking which leads me to believe the alarm is disabled. Does anyone know how to get the clown nose to blink? I could not figure this out from the owners manual.

just lock the car, with the remote. Pressing unlock disables the alarm and pressing lock, arms the system, and the 'clown nose' starts flashing. If not, check to make sure all doors are closed as well as the trunk.

Otherwise, something isn't right and you'll need to visit the dealer.

EDIT: See page 36 in your owner's manual

At the risk of sounding stupid, I found the window sticker of the car with all the other manuals. The car does not have an alarm! That is shocking when it has all the other goodies in it! I did find out, via the sticker, the car has premium sound. I sure thought the stereo sounded good so I guess that is why.

Mine has the clown nose but no alarm, like yours. At first, I was bummed that it didn't have it but, in 2 years, I haven't missed not having it. In reality, no one responds to an alarm noise anymore, do they? Also, the best security measure is that the car needs to sense the key inside the car in order for the car to travel any distance so I feel I already have the best security system available.

I am surprised since you have the red clown bubble nose on the mirror. My first Z4 3.0is came with the normal mirror as I recall then I requested the alarm to be installed before I took delivery. Only then did I have the same mirror as you with the red clown bubble nose.

So I suggest you get this confirmed by the dealer if you have the alarm or not.

I believe if you have the Homelink mirror, it has the clown nose, whether you have alarm or not (at least on newer cars). I don't have alarm, but have this mirror.

This is the case both in my 2011 E89 and my 2006 E90.

Up until the coming 2012 MY, alarm was an option. If you have the clown nose, then your car is "alarm ready"!

Not for 2011 according to my dealer. They told me that until 2011 the factory alarm could be a DIO, but no more.

My 2011 had the alarm as an option, which came factory installed. It's now standard equipment.
The new pricing structure is interesting. As some of you know, BMW is buying back my 2011 Z4 and giving me a 2012. With the new pricing, it actually totals up less for exactly the same car.

How did you get them to buy yours back?
