Finally installed mine earlier today! I broke one of the tabs on the old indicator, but no worries, new ones installed now.

Did this as well. Much better look than the white blobs.

Got the parts almost a month ago. Finally did mine this weekend. Took all of about 5 minutes. The way I removed the white plastic blob was to open the hood, and to push against the tab with a screwdriver while pulling from the outside. The blob came right out. Then I broke off the plastic tab on the chrome piece, which was flimsy and ready to break anyways. Finally I fitted the wiring, peeled off the backing and pushed the parts into place.

Here is a before picture with the white blob. Also, here are the after pictures.

All the installs look great, well worth doing i reckon.

I was just thinking if it was possible when fitting not to remove the 3M backing tape until after the indicator unit is fitted, i.e. just peel the backing paper off slightly at the very end end, then fit the indicator which will then allow it to be positioned more accurately before removong the backing tape. I found when fitting once you pushed the indicator home that was it, there was no allowance to position it more accurately as the double sided tape sticks immediately it contacts the bodywork. I'm probably just been a little anal it getting it spot on. I think this is why it has the plastic tab so the unit can be accurately positioned in place which you can't without it. I guess at the factory this allows for quick fitment.

Tim.

The way the lens snaps into place there really isn't a lot of play and I personally think worries about fitment are probably not an issue at all.

Tim, I did exactly as you suggest, taking the tape off at the last moment, perfectly do-able.

I applaud your use of the M badge. I have owned a factory 1999 and a 2006 M roadster as well as several M3's including the 2009 8 cylinder. My 2012 Z4 3.5is with M sport package is as faster and handles better than most of my prior M cars and I feel that the factory really should have badged this car an M also. My car was seen by the BMW president of North America at an event prior to the Daytona 500 and he commended me on the badging and even said they really should have done it themselves! A few purists have given me some heat on this site but my badges are staying!

I think the reason people get upset with M badges on non M cars is because you're making it something it isn't. Simple as that. Like AMG badges on non AMG Merc's... they're not AMG, and no matter how much you wish it were AMG, its simply not. Or like someone sticking V6 on a 4 cyl etc... BMW M division had no part in the e89, therefore, its not M and shouldn't have an M badge.

I accept though that BMW are confusing the picture with this M Sport business... which is an excuse to get several thousand pounds from most people for a slight styling change... and then it goes on to M135i's etc to confuse things more.

In the end, its your car, do what you want, but you will get flak when you badge your car something it isn't.

Well you could also day that today's base model 328 is faster and better handling than M's of a bygone generation. Where does it end? All car models evolve. You have to compare current generation models (apples to apples).

That said, I saw a 2014 on the showroom floor and it does look pretty slick, at least compared to the white indicators on my '11.

Dave... did you ever get them? I went to my dealer yesterday and placed the order for $63USD each and they will be in Tuesday morning for pickup. Granted, I am in Miami.

105 each is double what i paid for mine. just do a search for the part numbers on Google or something. they are out ther for much cheaper than what the dealer is charging. I did have to wait a few weeks for them to arrive due to backorder but for $100 it was worth the wait.

Plus I will say that the side markers dont look like an after thought any more. My E85 had the nice BMW emblems there that the light shined behind, then when i saw the white lens on the E89 i was disappointed. So this fix was a nice feature.

Hey Dan, sorry been away at the cottage for a few weeks. Yes, got mine and installed them ages ago (see thread #114 above).

As for pricing....difficult to get stuff shipped up to Toronto from the U.S. The sites offering the cheapest prices wouldn't ship to Canada and the ones that did had HUGE shipping fees. Wound up being cheaper or as cheap to buy from the dealer in the end.

Yeah, case in point. Great pricing, unfortunately they don't ship out of the U.S.

Finally took the time to install mine after having them sitting at my garage last two months... I really think this is the best mod i could have done to the car. Those old white ones were just hideous and hated them since day 1.
Thanks tot he pioneers for their valuable info!!!

Also took the time to adjust the front bumper with the fenders since they had a gap and weren't aligned properly from the factory. Did this by slightly bending upwards the metal tab that the fender locks on on the left side and bending downwards the one on the right side. Metal tab shown in the picture below:

I am (Finally) going to order my new LCI side markers.

Has anyone found them in the US at a better price then the $47.57 as listed below that I found at Tomkinson BMW?
My local dealer wants $76.10 each or 60% more. What a joke.

I ordered from www.bmwmercedesparts.com. You get 25% off retail when you register. Don't know if that's better than your deal, but FWIW.

Anyone paint these yet? Just wondering as this would be the only chrome on my car...

Wondering what these would look like in gunmetal - to match the rims (or whatever you want to call that color)
