Rear View Camera and Video in Motion

I am considering this for the rear view camera function. If it is as easy to install as the SmartTop module, I may dive in.

Pointless IMO, if you have a z4 with the new idrive, you have parking sensors, and they show you on the display how close you are. I think you can judge just fine how close you are from any objects. Its not like you are driving an X6, its a tiny z4...

Yes but with the SmartTop module, I need to be able to see where I'm going with the top unfolding while driving in reverse down the street; the parking sensors won't give me enough time to avert disaster....

Parking sensor control is not included with idrive, it's a separate option at $750

If you look at the link I posted, you'll see that one of the cameras available is integrated with a license plate LED. Very discrete and would not require any drilling for a "keyhole" like some other aftermarket cameras.

The only thing holding me back is the installation. If it requires me to remove panels in the dashboard, I may hold off as I'd rather not induce "squeaks" and "rattles."

Thanks, I did look, but once again my brain was in the off position. So it is positioned pretty low, I wonder how easily that area collects dirt on wet roads...

I look at it this way....

It can only add to the car and not take away from anything about it...

And with the front camera option - how close that front splitter is to the parking curb.

The videos were on an iPod classic, back when 640x480 was the standard. The new CiC systems are High Def, so larger files or .h264 Apple multimedia files will look great.

That video is from the excellent "The Hire" series starring Clive Owen. There are about 8 short movies (8-10min) in length featuring Owen as a nameless driver in different locations and driving different BMW models. Some really cool directors made the movies. The Madonna one, which is quite funny b/c she loses bladder control after her ride, was directed by her then husband..Guy Ritchie.

I bought the DVD off of the BMW site a couple of years ago. At the time, if you owned a BMW, you could get the DVD for free.

Hey I don't knock you for driving on the left side of the road, eating Bangers and Mash or for continually underachieving in the World Cup.

clive does a donut and opens the rear door and madonna falls, but because she has a coffee in her hand she spilled it all over her crotch, and when she falls out of the car and stands back up all the camera people are waiting for her and it looks like she peed on herself... pretty funny
