New REAR rotors arrived

Wish me luck. Last week I proved the rear brake pads could be replaced in my driveway. With that behind me I felt confident to order the rotors. Black zinc coated, drilled and slotted.

Just finished installing right rear rotor. E-z peezy.
Ebrake remove/install is a cakewalk.
This rotor is OE dimensions for US 35i/30i.
Pics on my cell. will upload later. Girlfriend is waiting for dinner......and I smell like a grease monkey.

Rotor removed without removing entire caliper bracket. Slipped off and on easy.

I'm no rotor expert, but to my understanding, isn't the black zinc coat just on the outside? That's to say, after using the brakes a few times, the zinc coat will wear off and it will just look like a normal rotor (exposed cast iron)? The zinc coating is only useful to prevent rusting on the edges. If that is not the cause, please prove me wrong because I am definitely interested in this mod. Looks good

Slotted rotors might be my next mod...

eveything that is rust on yours will have a black finish. ...and the slots and champher holes are to remain black. You may also have them with silver zinc coating for same benefit. Ask flpnout on this forum how his rear silver is working for him. he inspired me with this rotor on his rears to go with bmw bbk on his fronts.

So the ones that you got, were they pictured as all black or were they pictured as black with the silver braking face? This is what I found for mine on the website you listed.

once you have driven the car, the pads will wear off the areas that it made contact on the rotors and it will look like the picture above

My contact surface is beginning to wear down to standard polished friction surface.

Can't you just get a larger heatshield and rotor?

Correct. you can do that. The constraint is that Our rear brake caliper includes an integrated electronic parking brake motor. When a few here have upgraded size of rear rotors and calipers with more pistons, they now run without a parking brake. The heat shield is removed for stop tech bbk in the rear on my M3. An option that may be doable is to order the iS model number for the rear rotor and also order the rear stock iS caliper that will accomodate the larger diameter and thicker rotor.

I finished the install this morning with driverside rotor and pads. I measured the remaining thickness on old rotpr to be 0.742 inch. New is 0.785 (20mm).
The minimum allowed is 0.721 (18.4 mm). I only had half of a mm to go. It was time for rotors.

I agree VailM3. Here is pic from flpnout of that exact setup on his car. He inspired me with those rear rotors to use the same product.

aren't these smaller than the euro 35is rear rotars. Also the M-sport fronts are smaller than the euro 35is rotars too, correct?

Yes. These US 30i rears, same as US 35i rears AND yes are smaller than Euro/US iS rears and the Euro 35i rears.
They do make US iS rears

I don't know M-Sport dimensions/differences.

How confident are we that they won't start to rust in the holes and slots (i.e., surfaces where the brake pads do not contact the rotor)?

Also do these require any treatment before you can mount them with new pads or is it just straight up plug and play? I was thinking of doing rotors and Hawk pads to the front and rears, but didn't know if they would bed in on their own after awhile or whether they needed a pre-treatment. (Not sure I can justify the BMW Perf. brake kit on the Z4.)
