I have a AAA membership (~$50-$60 a year) so that pretty much takes care of any flat tire problems I may encounter and I got rid of my run flats as soon as possible.

Went with 225-40-18s in front to match the OEM size, but bumped the rear width from 255 to 265. 265-35-18.

Which wheels do you have??

My 35i is fitted with 17" wheels.....ready to "jump" to real tyres....
BUT
My concern is with this rim size I might end with "too bouncy" a ride?

Anyone here made the transition on this size rim and can comment?

Also, another PITA.......I only need replacement rears (fronts have over 5mm remaining), so will be dumping fronts early if I go to real tyres.

I did just as you describe and it improved the ride significantly. Definitely not bouncy (you can always drive in sport mode to firm up the suspension). I loved not getting my teeth rattled whenever I went over a bump. I also dumped my half-used front tires - do it, it's worth it.
