We have fairly nice winters in the Denver area, but I just don't get my fun cars out in the winter time. I might take a short drive or 2 each month just to charge the battery, etc. but no more than that as a rule.

Several 293 owners will attest to this. 5 minutes is a little bit longer than the 296s, but not a significant amount of time. |

Here's the deal.
I have checked out Colorado AAA, State Farm Insurance Emergency Road Service, and the BMW Roadside Assistance program. I am covered by all 3 programs. I am interested in knowing who to call should I have a tire or wheel problem on the road. Run flat tires may or may not be repairable as we all know by now. I understand that the BMW Roadside Assistance program allows up to $100.00 per incident unless your car should break down while under warranty or has been involved in anaccident. I am told that the normal "Hook UP " charge is $65.00 then you pay $4.00 to $7.00 per mile. $100.00 won't get you very far. I see that BMW offers a Mobile Assistance Program in addition to their Roadside Assistance Plan. I assume that cist extra. AAA Colorado. I have the basic plan which cost $112.00 per year. I have up to 4 events per year. I can be towed up to 4 miles. For $200.00 per year, I get the Plus plan which is about the same except I can be towed up to 100 miles. State Farm Insurance. I pay $3.00 every 6 months for their Roadside Assistance Coverage. It's simple. I can call anyone I want to come assist me and submit the bill to State Farm for reimbursment. I can call my agent if I am in my state and they will dispatch the help and pay for it direct. If I choose (I don't know why) to call AAA Colorado and it cost more than they will pay, State Farm will pay the difference. Here's the deal. State Farm will tow my car to whereever it has to go to be repaired. If I am 200 miles from home and out in the middle of nowhere (It's possible out West) and I damage a run flat tire to the extent that it cannot be repaired and there is no tire dealer or service station that has a replacement tire, then I get towed to the nearest location that can repair or replace the tire. If I am driving a Chevrolet Vega of a Ford Pinto and need a fan belt, that is much easier to repair than a BMW wheel or a run flat tire. My agent and I discussed this for a long time and the bottom line is--They will tow my car where ever it has to go to be repaired. $3.00 every 6 months. If I get a big nail in the side of my run flat tire or I bend my wheel while visiting the summit of Pikes Peak at 14,110 feet AMSL on a Sunday afternoon, I'm calling my State Farm agent as the hook up fee will be way over $65.00 and the cost per mile way over $4.00 to $7.00. I am satisfied with my investigation and know what I will do if I have need for raodside assistance. Your milage may vary. LOL |
