Transitioning into non-runflats
After a whole lot of research and ever so positive reviews and recommendations, I finally decided to go for the Michellin Pilot Super sports. It was not easy as the ease and convinence of the RFT's in the event of a falt is just perfect.
I have the 19" M wheels on my 11 35is. Can someone please guide me on the tire pressure to keep so as to have the TPMS work as intended. Fronts are 225/35/19 Rears are 255/30/19 Thanks All. Jake. |

I personally use the OEM tire pressure and just chalk up the sidewalks and take a look after each lapping session to check on whether or not I can lower the air pressure.
I have been ok with OEM tire pressure on 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 dunlop zii My understanding is if you want to very precise about about tire pressure, you would need pyrometer to check for even temperatures across the width of the tread. I haven't bothered because the sidewall looks ok and I am lapping for fun, not points or $. good luck |

I have non run flat Michelin PSS and I run around 4psi under the run flat pressures. This is the best mix for comfort/performance and wear that I've found. Lower than this and the outer edges wear, higher than this can become less comfortable.

TPMS is designed to sense a difference between when you calibrate it and the rest of the time. So when I set the pressures, I then run the TPMS calibration in the iDrive and job done.

I've ordered 265/30 on the rear and 235/35 on the front. Going to have them fitted soon as the current tyres are struggling with the new ECU remap! |

Not tried them but I was really impressed with the Ultrac Sessantas.
The PSS seem to be the king of tyres at the moment so I just went with them. There's a site called TyreLeader that are a fair bit cheaper than most if you're planning on buying new rubber. Just used them for mine and they are very fast with the delivery. |

My experience with NON RFTs is that if the pressure s too high you will feel really loose in the corners. HOwever, I have always been able to run the recommnded pressure on the door jam with no problem. Just when at the track i try to lower it a bit from there. No other issues noticed.
I did have a tire company once put 55PSI in all 4 tires and i didnt think to check it. After a week of driving it was like i had 15000 miles on the car even though there wasnt that much tire wear. I felt a significant drop in traction. Those tires didnt last but about 13000 miless too. I should have forced them to replace the tires.

Was the wear uneven and concentrated on the center of the tread block? If not, 13k miles is about right for a set of aggressive summer tires, especially if you track your car.

the wear was uneven for sure. when I swapped them they had cords showing. 13K with cords showing is unusual. I usually get 18K or so out of tires so 13K shocked me. Actually the wear was on the inside due to the negative camber that BMW uses it was like the tires rode on one side of the tire only while it had that much pressure in it. I felt a tremendous difference once I swapped them out.

So I fianlly got the Michellin's on. :happy anim:
What a freaking difference, as if the car was on railings and smooth. Although the service centre put in the same PSI as the run-flats. Not sure sure if I should muck with it. I think he said 36 in the fronts and 44 in the rear. Whatever is in the door jam. How would I reset the TPMS to learn the new PSI if I was to bring down the PSI a little in the rear/fronts for comfort daily driving.. Thanks... |

Make sure your installer re-installed the TPMS sensors and then follow the reset instructions in the manual. It works perfectly if you do that.
FYI: I have my tires set to 36 F, 39 R. But, to be honest, I'm still playing around with the pressures. Will probably end up going a little lower.
