Combox Retrofit for Assist Services

Need some help here.

Who here did the retrofit and if you did, were you charged for it?

Bought a CPO 2016 and it wasn't upgraded, the dealer is telling me this offer from BMW was to disable it and pay you, or you pay to have the hardware upgraded and that is why they didn't have it already installed on my Z4.

A 2016 MY should have the latest version installed by default. The retrofit window has passed (Sept 30th.)

The process entailed you going to the website https://bmwassistoffer.com to select whether to get paid out or have the dealer retrofit the combox for you. Once you chose the retrofit option, you'd show the dealer the email sent you confirming your choice and they would perform the retrofit for you free of charge.

I'm in the same boat as you for my 2014 MY. I went through the process, but was too lazy to schedule for a retrofit, and now I'm stuck without Assist.

2016's have the same hardware as all Z4's it seems. Mine has been disabled and BMW Assist said I will have to have the hardware updated to activate it.

I am pretty upset this wasn't already updated on this CPO car, more so since I did the deal before 9/30/2017, but the car was not delivered till Oct. Had I known it hadn't been updated I would have been on the ball to get the retrofit scheduled.

The dealer I bought it from is trying to tell me I would have had to pay for the hardware anyway. Which I called BS since I received the letters on my 2011 Z4 and my 2013 X5 after I had sold them and that letter said the retro was free or I could have them disabled and be paid a $ amount.

But with all of this what I am upset about is the car was listed to have all of these services on BMW and the dealer's website. So I expected a 2016 car to have all the options that were listed to be functioning.

I had to wait for a recall to be performed before I could take delivery of the car, now I found out this recall was to disable the Assist services. I wasn't told this was happening on the car I had already made a deal on and had paid money for. Had I known this was going to be disabled I wouldn't have let it go through.

I've got BMW involved and I have a case opened.

Needless to say, I am less than happy with the dealership I bought this from, I have been in limbo since I bought the car because they can't seem to get an answer...

I am in a somewhat similar situation. I also bought my '14 CPO from a BMW dealer in Jan '17. I feel that the retrofit should've been performed before picking up my car -- although the difference here is that I had the opportunity to take it in for the retrofit post-purchase but just didn't have the time to. I remember the SA telling me that there were a lot of people who were eligible for the retrofit now stuck without assist for either buying their car after the end of the window, or simply didn't do it on time.

Let me know what corporate tells you, because I'd still like to get that function, only because I want the send to car function.

I had mine done earlier this year during the free retrofit window. In order to qualify, I believe your vehicle had to have active BMW Assist Service and that you chose the option to retrofit rather than take a credit. My wife's 535 BMW Assist lapsed and so it did not qualify.

I agree that the dealership should have been clear with you that your 2016 CPO does not have the updated combox for BMW Assist (and related services). It's reasonable to presume the car comes with the services since BMW cars have it for the first 4 or 5 years until the warranty expires.

I had mine done as a courtesy (2012 Z4). I think with yours being a 2016 and especially a CPO, they should accommodate you. I'd ask nicely
