Problem is BMW will implement it on too many models before the backlash and realizing they fucked up. Same with engines. And styling. And so many other little things. This is unfortunately the new BMW of this decade.
I just got my mom a new 2017 Explorer...we originally looked at them in 2015. Sometime between then and now the HVAC and heated seat controls became old school buttons. Unfortunately, the heated steering wheel is still buried in the touchscreen. I am an iPhone loving millennial. The last thing in the world I want is HVAC or any climate/warmth/cooling item in a screen. The screen is to entertain and/or inform me. If my ass gets cold, I don't want to leave the screen to warm it up!

that whole quote is quite "ass backwards".

first, he says, "BMW designers will pull each car further from its next of kin in the model lineup, "You'll find the cars will become stronger in character and separated more from one another."
oh like how the 5 looks just like a small 7 and the new 3 is going to look just like the 5?also the x3 looks like a small x5?

second, he says, "BMW in the past aimed to alternate bigger changes with smaller changes when it redesigned a model".
is that so? cause i remember every single new generation be an absolutely different design.

this guy is a fucking idiot and the brand that I've loved for so long has been ruined by suits who want to milk the brand for every penny they can. clueless.

Going bad to an older design methodology of clean lines for a timeless look is smart. More touchscreens is not. Stop the madness please. These are cars not smartphones.

I love buttons and switches. Ever been in a car without a volume knob? What a pain in the ass / distraction anytime you want to quickly adjust the volume. I don't get why buttons and tactile features are now a thing of the past.

...Each Series needs to have it's own distinct and separate look. This means that the side view mirrors on the 7 looks completely different than that of the 5, and the 3 -Series has its own mirror design, for example. Enough of this cookie cutter transfer of design architecture from one model to the next.
but they do!
lines on the taillight shows how much money you paid to buy the large/small version of one car.

also i must agree, yes the F10 literally looks like the successor of the E39 but I don't think BMW has ever made (and hopefully never will) such a mundane looking car

I've sold MY F80 and going to keep my E46M3 and X5D. I think I'm pretty much done with BMW's unless they change their styling.

Yeah...no...

The only road presence it has, if i'm honest, is that it looks like a chode.
I like wide hips as much as anyone else, but when you're only 4"10', you're just a midget with a big ass. All the proportions are just wrong.
And then you have the fangs that make it look like it's trying too hard.
It's just a very uninspiring, cartoonish design.
If you like it, that's cool, but it's nowhere near "exotic"

I think the M2 doesn't look quite that bad. It looks like a mean bulldog. The proportions are a bit off and that front bumper looks like it's trying too hard. I like the M235i/M240i bumper much more.. but overall, its not a bad car. The driving experience is pretty good even with the numb steering. Heck I'd buy one if it wasn't for the front bumper.

I think it's a great car to drive... but I agree it doesn't look exotic.

The answer to your question why is money. Buttons cost money and can break. Plus tocuhscreens seem modern because of iphones and tablets. But i agree, the war on buttons is dumb. The model 3 is the epitome of insanity

Gah! I work at Acura, can not stand all the touch screens. Have to go through two menus and a sub menu just to turn on heated seats. So annoying.

Sorry, can't agree. Finally saw an M2 on the road, I was excited, wanted to like it so much. Sadly, I was let down. The rear 1/4 just looks terrible, it just looks so bulbous and fat.

It looks like it went to a cosmetic surgeon for ass injections and they could not figure out how to turn it off. It just kept getting rounder and bigger, and still kept injecting. By the time they finally got the machine turned off, they ended up with a Kardashian rump that does not match the rest. And they said, whelp, there it is.
