Caranddriver.com:

"To activate the Bimmer’s launch-control program—available only with the dual-clutch gearbox—put the Dynamic Drive Control in sport plus, move the gearshift into manual mode, and floor the brake and gas pedals at the same time. A checkered-flag logo pops up in the small display in the instrument cluster, and the engine revs to 4000 rpm. Let go of the brakes, and the Z4 dashes to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and hits 100 in 12 seconds flat"

That will go over really well at the test drive. The CA will probably soil his armor.

ya thats exectly what i did. But the cpu doesnt allow to rev over 1500rpm, when it reachs 1500, it drops back automaticly. so i can only release brake when it just reaches 1500rpm. best time i did was 5.05sec 0-60mph.

this method is for most traditional automatic cars. i think there might be a trick for the DCT BMW.

I believe the trick might not work with a DCT due to the fact the the clutches might wear out very fast with higher revs ...

One good reason not to buy a 35i demo unit...

since car&driver says it has a launch control although they say they didnt use it for 4.8sec.

also know M3 Mdct has the launch control too. saw it on youtube, rev to about 4000rpm. but dont know how to use it.

I still think the trick is on the DCT stick. I know E46 M3 SMG's launch control is like hold it down at 1st gear....rev....release the stick. (no brake tho) probably same on E60 M5 SMGIII.

same meaning in other automatic is like put it in N....rev....in to 1st gear off go. (no brake too, but never do this on other automatic, it burns the transmission)

anyway, didnt have enough time to try everything so..

From reading my manual, I think you need to do the following:

1) First let the engine warm up (drive in for 10mins or so)
2) Stop the car and press the brake
3) Put the car into manual mode and select 1st gear
4) Depress accelerator until flag appears on the dashboard
5) Release brake, keep your foot on the accelerator and away you go!

Car will not allow you to do it again straight away and there's a warning telling you that doing it too many times will prematurely age the car.

The manual does mention that the revs will climb and then the flag appears. Not too sure whether that's 4000rpm though...

NOTE: From reading the manual, it specifies that the car does not allow launch control until after the running-in period.

btw, depress accelerator at howmany rpm? cuz it wont go over 1500 tho. and i cant hold it long at 1500 too cuz it will drop. i think 1000 is not a problem maybe.

I don't think you need to hold it at any revs. You simply depress it, the engine will climb (people say to 4000rpm) and will simply stay there until you lift off the brake.

Has it gone past the running-in period of over 1000miles? If not, forget it. The car simply will not allow you to active launch control until after this time.

Mentioned it in a seperate message above, after I realised I missed it out. Actually, it's over 1,000 miles but I can't remember the exact amount off the top of my head.

I'll take a photo of the section within the manual and post it here tomorrow.

Nope, not tried it yet (I've only managed 200miles). I'm taking it easy so far but can tell that the 35 is darn quick and sounds awesome!
