Yes, I know all that, but I was talking about FEELING, which sometimes may not be “in line” with what you think/know of smth.
I do not think that is a subject for psychoanalysis (I am not a supporter of Freud’s theories), but that is just a matter of comfort.

Personalized Windshield

Hallo everyone,

I have a windshield in glas. I bought it in Germany, by the company UR-Windschott.

The internet site is: http://UR-WINDSCHOTT.de

You can find a description in english...

Top quality and fair price.

You can also personalize your windshield like this: (it's my windshield)

Best regards

Michel

finally, i have my wind deflector from just roaster, it is easy to install you just need to be carefull that you cut the straps the correct size and stick to tape on the correct side aswell apart from that easy. Even a girl could do it ( uhm ) just need to go and test it now but due to the weather in Scotland i need to wait till Thursday. I must say that you can see the straps more then i would have tough, i need to go and look again tomorow night.

tested it today and at 80mph it is good very little wind. if you do get one make sure that you cut the straps correct and make them a tight fit

Thanks Belgian, I've settled on the one from Roadster Solutions, mainly because it fit's in my luggage so I can haul it to and from Munich.

Another option - not that I have any first-hand knowledge about this supplier (I learned about it on an SLK forum) or that I'd want one for my Z4, but I thought I'd throw it out there. It is not yet available for the Z4, but they say on their site "coming soon"

Michel, can you post up a short review of this wind deflector? I'm thinking about buying it but there isn't much information available online from third parties.

I would like to know the following in particular:
- how effective is the device, and at what speeds?
- is the stereo any more effective with the windshield?
- does it flap in the wind, and if so at what speeds?
- how do the two rollbar inserts attach to the car?
- has the material started to discolour?

I'm sure you have more to add.

Cheers,
John

I've recently bought the Ur-Windshott wind deflector from Germany. I got the reinforced glass center piece as well as the perspex hoop inserts to fit my 2014 Z4 LCI.

- how effective is the device, and at what speeds?
Very effective at all speeds, more so at higher speeds. Certainly worth investing in a wind deflector, whichever one you go for.

- is the stereo any more effective with the windshield?
Not sure, I got a stereo upgrade with sound deadening in the doors at the same time as installation, so the sound is way better, but I could not say how much the wind deflector contributes to it for sure.

- does it flap in the wind, and if so at what speeds?
The center glass deflector is a solid as a rock, no issues there. The fittings are screwed into the hoops (just like the OEM fittings) and the glass is screwed into them. The hoop inserts rattle around the 40-50mph mark, depending on speed and throttle. I've pushed in some slithers of spongy 3M adhesive pads to prevent any rattle.

- how do the two rollbar inserts attach to the car?
They just "pop in" but should have something added at installation to prevent rattle.

- has the material started to discolour?
Too early to tell.

Here's the official instalation guide:
UR Windschott E 89:

The idea was to get a glass one for quality and decent visibility and I didn't want cheap looking straps to secure it either. This ticked all the boxes. Overall, dispite needing to fettle the rattle, I'm very happy and would definitely recommend http://www.ur-windschott.de/produkte-products.html

I made my own for about $25 USD. It looks factory too. I actually had to make a template out of paper then out of lexan then cut the final one from that. After a littlw sanding on the edges and some 3m tape we are good to go.
