Hello!

My first BMW experience was upgrading my wife from a 2011 Mini Countryman to a 2012 X3 in early summer. (I did spend some time driving a 1992 BMW 325is and helped a friend restore a 2002tii in the 90s.)

Later this summer when looking at late model Boxsters (I've owned several Porsches), I learned of the great model-year-end lease deals on the 2012 Z4. I took the bait and now we're having fun with two new BMWs in the family.

Normally I prefer sports cars that are a little sharper (more involving) than the Z4, but it'll be fun to spend a few years with it and see what's available in 2015 (new Z4, Boxster update, 911) when the lease is up.

I'm planning on upgrading the exhaust (If we ever get some good choices for the N20!), but probably purchasing a ECM tuning box first.

The Z4 IS a very pretty car.

You have a great looking car there. I think you will really learn to like this car a lot. Even after owning an E93 M3, I am very pleased with this Z4 myself. This is a keeper for me.

Hello Everyone. I just wanted to say that this is a very informative forum and also to introduce myself. My name is Carlo and I have ordered a 2013 Z4 28i. It is Jet Black, has the Coral Red Interior, Brushed Aluminum Accents, and heated seats. I decided to hold back on the other options to keep the price under 50k. Since this is a lease, I didn't have much wiggle room on negotiating the price I found out the car just went into production today with an estimated completion date of 11/13/12.

... I got lazy and wasn't able to make it out the the blue ridge parkway this weekend even with the amazing weather in the 70's... so instead I took this video of my wife 'stealing' my car, the first weekend home... Stills never really capture the essence of the car anyway... much better in motion...

yes you got that right!! We've put 1400 miles on it already! Launch control is simply breath takingly fast!! WOW!! My 135i was fast, but this little guy just plain 'get's up and Scoots!!'

more so refined and responsive... more driver feedback, better visibility... and looks so much hotter than our little 1er!!

the only disappointment is the non-premium sound stereo... the bass response is awful, the mids and highs are fatiguing... gonna have to upgrade the sound system... until then I just turn the stereo off and enjoy the beautiful sounds of the engine!

Hello everybody. This is my first post on the site, so I thought I would introduce myself. I am a former enlisted Marine sniper, and current military intelligence officer in the US Army with the rank of Major. I have around 18 years of service, and, I think, 11 combat tours. I'd have to pull out my uniform and look at my service stripes. Anyway, I am currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and just recently returned from another visit to the lovely Middle East, specifically Jordan.

Anyway, over the years I have owned 3 XKRs, an SLK AMG, a GTR and a corvette. I wasn't a big fan of the previous model Z4, but I really liked the new ones. I was shopping for one and found a 2013 SDrive 28i model at the BMW dealership here in El Paso. It was the color I wanted (Metallic silver) and although it didn't have the red interior I was looking for, I was won over by the canyon brown which I didn't think I would like, but actually looks pretty terrific in person, especially with the matching dash. It has the navigation system, premium and sport packages, and some other cool features. I was able to talk them down a few grand from the $57,000 asking price, then get another $4000 for being a member of USAA, as well as a $1000 military appreciation bonus. I got the full KBB value for my trade-in which was paid off, as well as $2500 back for the remainder of the extended warranty, so it was actually more cost beneficial to get a brand new Z4 with 21 miles on it than a new one. Has the full 4 year 50,000 bumper to bumper warranty. Anyway, I took a through and through on my right elbow and had surgery on the joint. It's fine but shifting is no longer really enjoyable, so this car has the dual clutch, manumatic/flappy paddle/regular drive mode thingie. Still great fun to drive and I honestly think that it is one of the best looking cars on the road today. Kind of reminds me of an old E-Type.

Anyway, I also have a custom chopper I built, a heavily modified Harley Davidson, and a clone/tribute whatever you want to call it of a 1969 Yenko Super Camaro that I have owned since I was 16. Or almost 25 years. Anyway, I will try to take some pictures this weekend and post them, as I am leaving to go train the Air Force OSI on Monday and will be gone for 10 or so days.

So this is my first "Ultimate Driving Machine" unless you count the 1965 GTO I still have but will not get from my daddy until his death. If you don't believe me, go to youtube and type in "GTO ultimate driving machine" and see how BMW stole that line from Pontiac. So far I love the car and can't wait to go hit the Transmountain Highway to New Mexico this weekend. I look forward to learning about my new Bimmer and all of the cool things I can do to it.

Hi all

I have had a e34 m5 for six years and loved it close to death. Figured it was time to let the beast step back and take it easy. Just got back from my dealer after pulling the trigger on a 2012 2.8. Alpine white, walnut, wood trim, sport and auto. 10k factory incentive at dealer cost. Nice.

Just joined the forum and will try to get more clever with my sig and some pics.

Hi All,

Greetings from "sunny" Westlake Village, Ca. My 2011 Deep Sea Blue/Ivory White Z435i is in the garage today, waiting for our good weather to reappear. This is a great forum with lots of interesting content. The Z4 is my second BMW, I had a 2008 335i first. That car was perfect. The Z4 is developing a lot of creaks and squeaks that seem to be coming from the junction of the top and body behind the seats. I expect that a dry lubricant would take care of the problem, but don't know if that's so, or what to use. All suggestions welcome! Happy Holidays!!

Hi from Glendale, CA

I had a 2011 35i M-Sport and now have a 2013 35is and never any squeaks or creaks or rattles...except if the passenger seat is all the way back and touching the bulkhead. Try making sure the seats are at least 1/2" from touching the rear bulkhead and if that doesn't work take the car to be checked....it's designed not to make unwanted noises, it's not a Corvette.

Hi, my name's Jules and I'm from the UK. I don't have a Z4 yet, but am going to test drive a couple of 2009 2.3i sDrive cars on Saturday.

I've had my current car (2002 E46 330Ci Sport Auto) for 7 years and 130,000 more or less trouble free miles. Is there any reason to think I will not get the same level of service from a 2009 Z4?

I'm trying to find a buyers guide, but can't find one on the forum (or I'm blind). I've checked out both cars that I am going to test drive by asking my local dealer about them. He's given me the full warranty, recall and original options for both cars. Some of the options are pretty obvious, but for others it's not. Is there a list of option codes anywhere?

The dealer advised me to check the roof well as it can get it's drainage holes blocked with leaves, which in turn results in the electric motor for the folding hard top failing, when it fills with water. Any other areas I should look at? Both cars are 2009, one has more options and has done 60k and the other has fewer options and done 30k.

Any advice or pointers to a more suitable thread (I can't make a new thread asking for advice with a brand new account, at least not until my post count goes up) gratefully received.

What a start... yes get over to the other forum too as its largely UK based. If you're looking at an e89 (2009 on) then ignore whatever advice you've been given about drainage holes and roof motors because that was for the older Z4, whoever gave you that advice for an e89 needs a talking to! Unfortunately the e89 is not without its faults. Rear lights that fill with water, rattles in the cabin and roof mech, but the engines are fairly robust...

Cheers guys, I've posted on the other forum.

The guy I spoke to at my local dealer, in his defence, did say that he personally didn't know the Z4 very well, and that I could come down and talk to one of the mechanics if I liked.

New Boy

Hi

Great to have joined the forum. Bought a 3.0 M Sport in November and have spent the time doing some mods - including iDrive and CIC install. Will post the "How to" Guide I have put together.

Beautiful car - now complete!

Just joined the forum to do some research on my next purchase. I'm looking for an'09 Z4 35i in Space Grey Met w/ coral red or black interior. I've test driven a few '09's and am shocked at the lack of heated seats in most of them. I currently own a 335ix and want to add another BMW to the garage.

Hi from Switzerland

Hi Guys,

I have joined the forum a month ago and I forgot to introduce myself:

I bought a Deep Sea Blue Z4 23i 2010 last November as my first car.
I was so amazed by this car that I decided to look for a place with other passionate people about the Z4.
I want to share my enthusiasm and learn all the possibilities to tweak/update/improve the car and make it even better.

This forum is simply the best one for me about the Z4.
