Loaded Z4is -- no compass mirror. Is that normal??

Seems like a mistake. The manual and the website list it.

Warden,

If you have iDrive & Nav, you don't get the compass mirror; like mine. I have Nav etc and no compass mirror.

Interesting.

I think that's pretty weak, really. And not very clearly disclosed anywhere. At least nowhere that I saw.

I remember my E90 had both, the navi and the mirror, the only thing I can think off is you have to request not assume it comes with it. Sometimes the catalog or order form is wrong. I remember my E90 said I could control heated seats from idrive but there was nothing available in the menus.

My dealer says it's not available anymore at all...not sure how accurate that is...

Warden, you're correct. It's not clear in the manual. In fact, on page 103, under the heading "digital compass", you'll note there's a "*" next to it.

The star denotes that the car comes equipped with the compass mirror if Nav is not installed. Presumably the theory is that why would you need a compass in the mirror if you have Nav installed, which shows the compass / direction etc.

Not saying I don't disagree, just wanted to point out that it's there, but incredibly subtle.

Dave, I am looking at my manual and I see the Digital Compass marked with the asterisk as you noted. The key at the front of the manual notes the asterisk "indicates special equipment, country-specific equipment and optional accessories, as well as equipment and functions not yet available at the time of printing." I don't see any specific reference that the compass is not included if you have iDrive or Nav.

Like Warden, I was disappointed to find that the digital compass I thought was included was deleted on my build. There are plenty of times I don't drive with the Nav function open on the display but a quick glance on the mirror would be helpful. Another nickel-dimey decontenting move by BMWNA no doubt, deleting content on the sly.

One thing that made me not care too much about the compass ftn is that apparently it can't be turned off? It's a bit glaring when driving at night but I guess ppl get used to it. Still, would be nice to have that on/off option.

Didn't say it was blinding. Just not used to having some illumination there where you'd just expect (close-to-near) darkness.

No, no mistake, in fact I am sure you are right. Just wanted to point out that BMW doesn't exactly disclose what you've deduced- no compass mirror with iDrive/Nav.

One of the options you have has deleted it. You can check it out by going to a BMW web site and use the "Build Your Own" then you will see what option will delete the Compass from the mirror.
