New owner and first mods

I picked up a '10 Z4 35i Monday. For those that know me, I can't NOT take car apart as soon as I get it.

The first thing to do was hard wire a V1. It is tapped into the switched ignition power above the mirror. The concealed display is secured inside the left vent. We removed the flappers inside and took off the adjuster. It can easily be put back together in the future.

Next was the create more storage inside the center console. Who in their right mind would buy a BMW phone? A little fiddling around and the phone holder is gone. A quick plate w/ double side tape gives me an added storage bin.

I've also started playing around w/ coding. I purchased the BMWhat adapter/software prior to getting the car so I could validate any existing codes/faults that might be present. I'm liking the features, but still trying to get everything dialed in. So far I've got windows up/down and mirror open/close w/ the remote. I'm missing something to allow the top to open/close w/ the remote. My previous car was a 2000 323i, so there weren't many options available. I'm going to start playing around w/ other coding tools and see what else is available.

Er... no-one buys a BMW phone.. because they don't make one!

You do however buy the adaptor for the phone of your choice to enable charging/better signal or media interfaces.

Funny post.

I can't imagine what the adapter for an iPhone 6 plus would look like :-D

1st mod for any Z4 owner is stubby antenna and then I would go with set of PSS tires. As for that V1…ugh should done a mirror job instead.

Not a fan of the mirror job. I want the display as concealed as possible. Especially w/ the top down in VA where radar detectors are illegal, I don't want anything extra blinking and visible to nearby drivers to call attention.

On my last car, we put it in the instrument cluster. It isn't the best picture, but it's the only one I have on this PC.

Where did you mount your V1?

I have a V1 as well and I'm fairly new owner to the z4, any more info on either that mirror install or the concealed one?

Nice job.. now can we see the goods? Post a few pics of the rest of the car. And welcome to the forum, as you can see we are a mixture of sarcastic owners in here.

Does the phone holder just pry out, or do you have to take the center console apart? They don't make the adapter for my phone, so I'd rather have the space too.

That's just the cable, no need to have an adapter to "hold" the phone.

I have plugged in my iPhone 5c with the iPhone usb cable and the interface worked, what is the benefit of paying almost 100 for the BMW cable? Does it provide better charging or more features?

.
I´ll go backwards.... ref centre console storage - got the Zet of mine with the phohe cradle, too, but bored of it a bit more ..... replaced the storage bin (divided due phone holder) with a unitary one - pos. 6 (OEM No. number: 51169181218)

ref V1: imho an inconvenient and obsolete solution .... I vote for a complete (though partially illegal here in CZ) package Protector 950 AL.... definitely not cheap, but a full protection is simply worth the bucks.... radar detection, laser shielding, GPS database (red light cameras, section speed control....), no false alarms, 100% stealth installation

Never seen that before. how do you install that and what do you have to purchase for it?
