The LCI now has a sharp edge arming the cup holders so not only does it rattle like shit but it is wearing off the paint on the travel mug and leaving debris around the cup holder

I did a lot of research on Contigo mugs after first reading this thread. I have 3 different insulated mugs, none of which fit my E92 properly. Two of them are genuine BMW accessories. Searched the internet for a couple of days to find the dimensions of all of the Contigo Autoseal models. The 20 oz. looked like it would fit...base diameter given was 2.75 and also 2.80. Received it today and it is just slightly too big....must be 2.80.

Not so fancy...only cost $17.15, thinking yours was much more. Mine is only 1/16 inch too big! Dammit!

This one works for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T7MLVUA
Downside is that you need to be mindful of which direction the handle goes.

I demand a fully-sealed design so I can throw the cup in my bag and not worry about spills.

And that's precisely why I second aaaaah with a recommendation of a Zojirushi.

Not only is it a full-seal design, it locks -- securely. Materials are top quality. It's light. It can be operated by one hand -- even the locking/unlocking. It keeps bevs warm for several hours -- more efficiently than any other insulated liquid mug I've ever owned. It's easy to clean. It's quite rugged. And a Starbucks venti anything fits the 20-oz model perfectly -- the moment I get one from a barista, I pop the lid and pour it into the Zoji.

I have two because it's so good, I use one around the house instead of a traditional mug. My other one is my 'road trip' mug, and I have no qualms throwing it on my P-car's leather seats (or in its retractable cupholders). And it fit in the BMW cupholders fine. No, it's not snug. But would you rather have a mug that fits a hole so it won't spill, or a mug that won't spill even if its upside down or, say, tossed over to someone else?

Just do it.

I'll be shocked if any of these don't fit a mass production BMW

Now, fitting your criteria, that's a different story.

Thanks everyone for your responses and suggestions! I have now tried 11 different mugs, from 7 different companies, including Contigo, Starbucks, BMW official merchandise, etc.

I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, that all of them absolutely suck in comparison to the Thermos one I linked in my original post. I didn't realize how spoiled I was by this truly vacuum insulated mug. I don't know why the idiotic graphic on Amazon says 5 hours HOT, on their official website it says 9 hours HOT and I have come pretty close to it in real life (drinkable warm coffee after 12 hours). I have found a solution to the rattling (added a cardboard sleeve around it) and I will never complain about it again.

I'm sorry you went through the same pain I did. Even though Contigo is a decent brand, most of their mugs won't fit E92 cup holders correctly or at all. From what other people are reporting, it sounds like our E92s have particularly annoying cup holders...

Have you looked at a Goat Mug? It has a tapering shape. I think it should fit.

Kleen Kanteen. But I don't like using the center mounted cup holder. It goes in the door sill.

I use an Aladdin 16 oz.. fits nicely and has a top that although not 100% leakproof, doesn't tend to spill if knocked over with the lid closed.
Keeps coffee hot for longer than other cups I've tried too.
Not sure if it's still available, I've had mine for a few years now

For the F30 there are bottle holders in the door pockets that can hold insulated water bottles that can also hold coffee. I'm getting the small hydro flask and will let you know if it fits. Not sure about E92 however. Just thought I'd mention it as this is the F30 forum. Hydro Flask will keep your coffee hot and steaming for an entire day or ice water with ice still in it for 24 hours.

Best mug I ever had. Find one in a colour that suits your BMW!

I do not drink or eat in the car, but I will take coffee to work...even if this mug fell out of the cupholder (which has never happened), it would stay sealed without a drop spilled.
Tight closure and screwtop, and keeps drinks hot for hours!

AND it fits in my E92.

Definitely not sealed but covered and have yet to spill. I just throw away when I get where I’m going. No washing involved.
