Premium Sound Package - 2009 Z4
OK I can't locate any details on the PSP other than what BMW has posted online:
$2000 USD iPod and USB adapter Premium hi-fi system 6-disc DVD Changer Does anyone know the exact specs for the prem hi-fi and any additional speakers over the stock HU? Is it basically same as the 135i prem hi-fi logic7 without center channel? 300w amp / upgraded speakers / DSP thx

You can find some information here: http://www.zroadster.com/forum/bmw_z...essionnal.html The European standard comes with 6 speakers but we have two HiFi packages (one with 11 speakers and 250 Watt and one with 14 speakers, 650 Watt and Surround). Not sure about what is standard in US. PS: The HiFi Professional is the 14 speaker / 650 Watt / Surround package |

Do you really need 14 speakers in a 2-seater car? lol
Anyone know what the standard U.S. System is? |

I ordered the 11 speaker package here in Switzerland. In the German forum somebody claims having a neighbor that works at BMW Sound and he recommends the 11 speaker package. Nobody really needs 14 speakers, 650 Watt and Surround sound in a roadster (just my two cents). Don't know what is standard in the US but I had the impression that they only speak about 3 additional speakers (which would make the "normal" HiFi package the default in the US). Not sure here. The other question is: Can you order the USB interface without the premium sound package? (because for me the USB is a clear MUST). |

not so sure..
i do have the intermediate premium package with 11 speakers and find it good for the extra monnies needed (in coup e92 and series 1). would not go for the premium pro package .. However; i opted for it in the z4 for 2 reasons: price differential from intermediate to pro is little; but more important, not sure that 11 speaker system provides rear sound, and if it does, nede to be sure that rear speakers are powerful as usually located behind seats ! surround feature in such a cramped cabin is important. I dont know if the additional speakers are rear located, but if there are, can be worth going for pro system. used to have Harman Kardon system in merco slk; and no sound was coming from rear ! very disapointing. does someone have the chart depicting speaker location in the cabin ?? thanks PS: for USB yer you can , even with stock system, just need to opt for professional radio upgrade |

I have seen the 11 speaker system in Geneva. I believe it does provide enough sound from the rear. The HiFi system is 1000 € where the HiFi Professional is 1600 €. That is (in essence) 600 € more for 3 additional speakers. I don't say it is not worth it (taking that it ups the power from 250 Watt to 650 Watt and adds surround sound) but it is not a small price difference in my opinion. Regarding the speaker system: Basic system (6 speakers) has two speakers at A pillar (do you call it like that internationally?) two spearkers in the doors two speakers in the corner behind the seats (at shoulder level) HiFi system (11 speakers) has 5 additional speakers (250 Watt power and car specific equalizing): two bass speakers directly behind the seats two speakers at the rear view mirrors 1 center speaker on the dash (i guess behind the navigation system) HiFi professional brings 3 additional speakers (650 Watt and surround sound): 1 additional speaker at the same location like the center speaker of the normal HiFi package 2 speakers in the back (centered above the throug loading) Sorry for not specifying the exact speaker types - don't know the English words. I think 11 speakers will be more than enough PS: I trust you are referring to Europe regarding the USB - this is clear. The question was can you order the USB in the US without going for the sound package. PPS: Sorry. I mixed up the currencies. Figures above are CHF and NOT Euro! tks for the explanation, gosh, prices are so different, in lux the profesionnal costs some 1000 euros, and the hi fi 700 , so little differences between the two, as a matter of fact, i dont know why, but the price differential between the 2 hi fi systems is the lower than for other bmw cars, which explains why in this situation, would rather opt for the most expensive, but in your case, imagine i would go for the medium one

The figures I said are CHF and NOT Euro. It goes in line with your prices. Nevertheless I had to draw the line somewhere... The car was already expensive enough PS: Price difference in Germany is 360 EUR. |

Here is my two cents about the pro vs the DSP surround System discussion.
I used both of them in other cars, the difference is not as easy as it seems. The DSP speakers are a much better value for money. In fact it is not just 3 more speakers that are added, but a totally different system using high quality speakers and optical fiber bringing the sound. I can tell you that you feel the difference between those two. Go DSP you won't regret the few more bucks spent. My only concern about all those fancy stuff is the weight of the car at the end, but that is another story |
