Smoke on start up

Hi all.
Bit of advice if someone can help please.
Had my 2013 E89 (2.0i) for around 6 months. On start up, exhaust blows smoke for a minute or less. During cold weather I put it down to condensation. However, not too cold in the mornings now due still blowing smoke. Oil levels are ok and leaving nothing on my drive.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Just looks like condensation…what’s it look like after 10 miles of running?

These engines N20 don’t tend to suffer from oil burn related issues and the injectors are much better so excess combustion products seem unlikely

Yeah i have had some conversations with my friends too about getting some smoke on startup. But everyone tells me that its just condensation and nothing to worry about..

Thanks for the advice.
It only seems to be on start up. No problems minutes after I drive off, and for the rest of the day, it’s only first thing. I was concerned as it seems to be actual smoke and doesn’t ’evaporate’ as condensation would. Oil level is still on ‘max’ 6 months after last service so doesn’t seem to be burning oil.

I have just checked the documents, and not sure if it’s related but at the last service in September (before I bought it), the garage used 0W20 oil. I understand that ideally it should be 5W30.
What you guys think?

0w20 seems odd... i think 5w30 Gastrol is in my car...

For N20 BMW recommended 0W20..5W30 was for N52/N54

The 20 bit is a fuel economy focus..

Personally I’d go 0W30 or 5W30

The economy focus is at the expense of long term stress protection..

smoke

The color of the smoke can help identify the problem. Blue smoke usually indicates burning oil, white is water, black is fuel. As the engine heats up the smoke may go away.

Similar issue.

My Z4 makes me want to have a smoke. Right after a drive.

Thanks for all the advice.
An update from me, I had the oil changed from my local BMW specialist. He said the oil that he drained was as thin and runny as water and as black as f@ck even though the car has only covered around 3k since last service. He strongly advised against using 0w20 that was used at the previous service and used 5w30. This was around 4 weeks ago and seems to have resolved the issue. No more smoke!
Thanks again for all the tips and advice…. 👍🏽

Wow! That makes me wonder if the oil was actually changed at the previous service. What brand of oil was used?

You are probably right.
If you are referring to the previous service, I have no idea what was used. It was done just before I bought the car. It’s now done by my local specialist that I’ve been using for 15 odd years so at least I know it has been done right this time!
