This Sdrive crap is annoying......damn marketing department is destroying BMW, esepcially the //M brand.

Car looks great, and will be a fantastic car but why on earth the mile long name? Some a**hole who just go hired into the BMW marketing department who knows nothing of the company's history or class is calling the shots here and it completely sucks!

Cheers,

Great pics. I see one control for a heated seat but individual temperature controls. I'm probably missing something but how do you select the heat level for each seat?

Look more closely and you will see the buttons for each seat... as usual.

My mistake, I mistook the 2nd button from the right on the dash as seat heater button.

they should make this car with a 2 litre 4 cyl turbo engine and make it a bit more affordable - this way it will be much more successful and if the chassis is great, the car should be good fun to drive with light powerful small motor.

sadly no, this is gonna be expensive roadster out of price range of many buyers in europe. In this economy it will be a sad flop most likely.only hope is on you america. as always.

Has anyone seen any manual transmission pictures?

And anyone have a clue what the tumor ontop and centre of the trunk lid is for?

Spoke with the BMWBlog fellows that took those shots. Juliane Blasi was there, along with Nadia Arnaud, Z4 interior designer.

Of course Adrian Von Hooydonk and Chris Bangle were present.

I was told Ms. Blasi is really nice and she was not used to the publicity around her.

I'm guessing the sat nav antenna, although it didn't actually appear on the launch cars in December.

I completely agree with you. And I don't think it will sell well in the US either. It looks too much like the old car, but with a folding hardtop. It carries over several parts, and others seem to just be re-shaped. If this is a totally new car from the ground up, BMW has fooled me -- cuz it looks more like a heavy re-fresh.

They should have just dropped the Z4 and focused on a/the Z2.

I would really like to see the actual law. It really makes no sense especially if it is in regards to 2009 models how come no other makers are using different naming convensions.

A MB C350 is still a C350.

And if it is true, why? I am trying to figure out why the Gov is getting involved in naming now.

Apologies if the regulation (which I wasn't able to find) goes into effect.

If I could use a 2 seater this would be the one. Fantastic re-design. Beautiful.

I sent mapezzul a PM to come here and comment, he broke the story and operates bimmerfile. I think its only the cars that had the engine displacements in there name, ie the Z4 3.0i and z4 3.0si

FXhomie here is a direct quote from bimmerfile.com
Quote:
Here’s an excerpt from the internal BMW memo:

Due to upcoming U.S. regulations in effect for Model Year 2009, we are changing some of our naming protocol. The new naming protocol will affect all products that currently have an engine displacement designation within the name—X3, X5, X6, Z4 and Z4 Coupe.

Z4 PICs

Great PICs,

Car looks a bit like a 6 from the rear and a CS from the front.

With an aggressive face like that, I think cars will tend to get OUT OF YOUR WAY in the fast lane.

I will hold out for the M coupe. Just bought a 135i last year and can't find any good reason to justify another purchase.
