Fuel Capacity
I'm assuming the capacity stated beneath the Fuel Guage on page 65 of the 2010 owner's manual has a typographical error - "approx. 14.5 US gallons". In several other places in the manual it's stated that the capacity is 15.5 US gallons including a 2.1 gallon reserve.
Do wish there was a digital display available of the actual fuel remaining in the tank at any point in time. That remaining range display based on average fuel consumption during the last 18 miles of driving just doesn't do it for me. By the way, does that calculation include the "reserve" amount? Best regards, Ed |

My experience has been that manufactures like to include the "reserve" capacity in the total amount, even though the fuel level gauge and on board computer will not reflect it. I'm sure you're aware that routinely dipping into the "reserve" zone will damage your fuel pumps (tank and engine mounted). The fuel pumps need the fuel for cooling and lubrication.
Of course getting back to your original questions - how much is that? |

I honestly don't know the answer. The 14.5 gallons seems to be the correct total capacity. Around town I take it down to 30 miles to empty before filling up. It takes 12.5-13 gallons to fill so I assume I only have about 2 gallons left.
That is a good point on keeping the reserve. Anything to avoid HPFP problems.

Although the capacity is variously shown in the manual as 14.5 and 15.5 US gallons, it's always specified as 55 liters which does convert to approximately 14.5 US gallons. So, it would seem the capacity given on page 65 is indeed correct and the other references such as on page 228 are wrong.
Thanks for the insight with respect to the fuel pumps. Best regards, Ed |

i never let it go past one quarter and it's usually 11.2 +/- .2 and it always says 90 to 100 miles to go, so doing the average of 19mpg that i usually get, that means i have 15.5 gallons total.
