Orange screen of death
Got in my car this morning to be greeted by this:
Radio works ok, screen opens and closes, but all I get is the orange screen, which then goes blank/black after a while (those vertical bars in the photo are not visible to the naked eye). Searched for "orange screen" here, but couldn't find anything related, so I guess this is a rare issue. Hopefully not an expensive one. |

You will probably find its a one off and the next time you use the car all is well. I've never had it but I've read some people see it now and then. Just another BMW 'feature'.

Similar issue reported here ("gresu" + "PaLu") in 2010: http://bit.ly/189jCU9
Appears to be some kind of hang & reboot. The issue disappeared with one of the next starts of the car in both cases. Is your 2009 car's firmware up to date? A newer software could avoid the orange screen completely or replace it with a text indication. Best regards Mick |

Thanks guys, it indeed was a one-off (at least for now). Don't know if the firmware is up-to-date, but it or at least parts of it have been updated twice since I bought the car (last time was only 3 weeks ago).

Where you doing something out of the ordinary in the system before shutting it off the day before?
My navi pro is from 09, and I once had my oil service interval reset itself to "I wanted new oil 40k kms ago". And I remember browsing through the services menu, and "leaving" the system there while turning off the car, the very day before it happened. Because this is something I wouldn't do normally - I normally turn off the car while it is showing the usual music or navigation screens... |
