That's pretty spooky. But I'd never make that video without cleaning my wheels first

Might be easier to see if you put your camera on a tripod and stop walking around with it.

Yep, DTC

yep my rims are dirty,

yep -it's shaky

Nope - I'm not standing by with a tripod waiting for this to happen.... Was running to a DR appt at the time, so something was better than nothing. It will happen again...

Rough crowd - but I figured - it's all good, I just wanted to document so the dealer can't say it never happened. Really subtle rocking - like 3/8 if an inch

So finally got my car in and apparently it's been the topic of discussion around the shop and with BMW NA today. Got a few more views of my video...

I'm being told this is "normal" since there is not a locking pin that is used to stop a traditional transmission when put in park, but hydraulic fluid.

I'm not sure how to react. Largest BMW dealer in North America (Classic BMW in Plano TX (Dallas))

Thoughts?

"It's normal, and by that I mean I don't know what the hell is going on," says BMW tech.

How can it be normal for a 3500 lb car to sit level and rock back and forth?
I could see moving EITHER forward or backwards 1 TIME to HIT ITS allowable transmission rolling gap BUT rolling back and forth on its own IS NOT STANDARD.
There is gravity and science that says that this NOT standard as part of the NORMAL owner ship mode.

If it was normal for this to occur you could bet the farm that BMW WOULD
publish this in the manual to protect themselves and protect us from ourselves.

good info update

posted this over in the M3 forum - check out the responses

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1072101

So it does appear this is "normal" based on the understanding that when put in park the car is really in 7th gear....

Not necessarily true about 7th gear, if you read the M3 post just before your last one.
But whatever, it doesn't sound like its a problem. Those M3 guys seem to have a high level of technical knowledge, as opposed to some who just like to rant.

Do some of you guys have 'history' w/ the OP? LOL, oh man...

I can clearly see the rocking, tripod or not. Wow, this is considered normal? I better check out my car.
