Post 2012 Z4 Changes and Pricing Released. New Canyon Brown M Sport Package

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello to all you Z fans!
Information has just been released to us yesterday regarding the Model Year 2012 BMW Z4. In case anyone was wondering when production will start, pricing/option changes, and different packages...here's your answers!

I know its a bit long... But it's good information! ...Orders can be placed in August for a September production
If you have any questions just add it to this thread...
-KYLE

Standard Equipment Changes:

MY12 sees the introduction of several brand new features on the Z4, reinforcing its benchmark position in performance and providing it with greater efficiency:
  • 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo Engine (N20) – coming on the Z4 sDrive28i is the all-new 2.0L TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine, producing 240hp and a peak torque 260 lb-ft available as early as 1,250 rpm. The N20 engine offers better performance than the outgoing inline-six of the Z4 sDrive30i while allowing up to a 20% improvement in fuel economy.
  • Auto Stop/Start – will come standard on any Z4 sDrive28i with a manual transmission. Under certain driving conditions, Auto Start/Stop turns off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop, providing up to a 3% improvement in fuel economy. Pressing the clutch to put the car in gear automatically re-starts the engine. Please note this feature can be switched on/off via a button located next to the Start/Stop button.
  • Driving Dynamics Control – a button on the center console enables the driver to vary the response of the accelerator, steering, transmission (when equipped with automatic transmission or DCT), DSC and suspension (when equipped with M adaptive suspension) from “Comfort” to “Sport”. The additional “Sport +” mode turns off the DSC for an even more dynamic driving experience.
  • In addition to these exciting new features, the following popular options have been added to the Z4’s standard equipment profile, further enhancing its customer value: Hands-free Bluetooth and iPod/USB adaptor (7H9), Alarm (302), Floor Mats (423), Power Seats (459) and Through-Load (4UT).
Optional Equipment Changes:
  • Exterior paint Mineral White Metallic (A96) added on all models and available exclusively in combination with the all-new Exclusive Canyon Brown and M Sport/Canyon Brown packages.
  • Exterior paint Mojave Metallic (A17) deleted on all models.
  • Navigation system (609) is now bundled with BMW Assist (639) on all models for $2,150.
  • The 8-speed Sport automatic transmission (2TB) will now be available on the Z4 sDrive28i as a no-charge option.
  • Package Changes:
  • Exclusive Canyon Brown Package
  • After two years of success, the Exclusive Ivory White Leather Package (option ZWP, available with M Sport Package as ZMW) will be deleted and replaced by an all-new aesthetic package. The Exclusive Canyon Brown Package (option ZBP) will include the following features:
  • Sport seats (481) with an exclusive extended Merino leather upholstery (option LKWT) in elegant Canyon Brown with contrasting stitching on the side bolsters of the seats.
  • Upper dashboard in Canyon Brown Oregon leather with contrasting stitching.
  • Front lateral and center armrests in black Nappa leather.
  • Center of passenger-side dashboard and door handle in black Nappa leather.
  • Fineline Anthracite wood trim (option 4CE – only available with this package).
  • Exclusive exterior color Mineral White Metallic (option A96- only available with this package) with additional color choices from the standard Z4 exterior paint program.

While I agree that the standard options on this car had been sorely lacking, It's a bit annoying for those us who had to pay for every one of those items up until now. In addition the premium sound @ $950 is less than 1/2 the price..., I believe I paid $2100. Not to mention the recent insane lease deals where you can get into the top of the range model for $400 a month?!

I paid an arm and a leg for my iS and I love her dearly but I cannot help but feeling a bit ripped off. This is my first BMW having come from the Mercedes camp but I'm wondering if this is standard company practice or are they just desperate to get the car out there. I can tell you with all certainty that when you buy a Mercedes not only do they offer you more standard features but those that you do buy you can be confident that they will not be free the next year.

had that happened to me before with the 3 series coupe, but u have to understand that model year end sales always piss off buyers. so u know what i do? i just wait until that sale so that lease ends around that time and i get a great deal again and again.
the bottom line is u love the car and thats it

Its not as bad as it seems! I know you had to buy the options on your car, however on the 2012 they are not add all these options free of charge. Typical BMW fashion is to add these options and raise the base price up (in this case the 2012 has gone up over $2,000 from base MSRP of the 2011's...) So you aren't losing all that much after all...

So the Permium Package went down $1400 and the Permium Sound went down $850 from MY2011 ... but the price of the car went up $1700 (in the case of the 35is) ... so a net decrease of $550 ... nothing I am going to loose sleep over ...

options are cheaper but they raised the 3.5is base price $1,700 from the $62,500 currently listed on BMWUSA for the '11s and $3,200 from the new '11 (old stock) I just leased......for those that want a base model, it just got more expensive, if you order a loaded one, probably the same or maybe a smidge cheaper depending on configuration.

So, Nappa White is gone? Or they are just deleting the package, but still keep Ivory White, extended leather option, etc.?

Great, all this are great news. Now maybe we can start seeing more mods for our Z4.. The way I see it, the more BMW sell out their Z4s, the more likely we will have mods...

I wouldn't nag a lot about these changes, isn't that the case in many other categories? Electronics.. Etc..

First kids on the block always pay premiums......I remember shopping for my2002 M3 and every dealer had $10-15K added to the bottom line. I'm still a bit torqed with the 2011 leases that are $600 less per month than my 60 month loan pmts.

The pricing changes are not really that big a difference. Depending on the options you ordered. Even less if you did ED.

I don't think I would enjoy the "Start/Stop". I haven't driven a car with that feature yet so it seems weird. Although with most manufacturers and IC engines it certainly is the wave of the future.

i carpool with a guy with a hybrid that has start/stop and in the summer it annoying, AC barely works with engine off.
but what surprises me is that how quickly it starts up and goes.

I've read that cars delivered to the North American market will not have this option, and if they do there is a switch (right beside the start button) to turn this feature on or off.
