I'm back in the E89 community.

I'm back and I couldn't be happier.

I have missed my 2011 E89 35is ESS Tuned since I sold it.

Yesterday I secured a CPO 2016 35is demo with less than 10k miles.

I've never missed an auto after selling one and my 2011 E89 left a void in my life .

But now, all has been set straight.

ESS tune and Smart Top are going to be my first buys. Now I wish I had kept my Smart Top module. Also, it stinks that ESS VIN locks their tunes......

I still have my stubby antenna and LED bulbs in the shop

Welcome back.

Quick note, before proceeding with a $700 purchase of the ESS Tune. You might want to checkout MHD Flash first. Superior performance for only $148 ($99 flash module + $49 stage 1 maps, which includes stage 1 and stage 1+). Look it up. I had 2 x ESS Tunes on 2 different E89s (2x$700) and, like many others here, have found MHD flash to be much more cost efficient and versatile.

Good luck.

Are we getting more power out of MHD tunes?

Also, the cable used for the MHD tune, can it be used for coding too?

Smart Top Module is an in-line module that you put on the roof control unit that allows for added features from your remote.

It enables the ability to open and close the top from the remote at distance, also enables one-touch up or down from the inside button.

On pre LCI it also enables opening or closing up to 20KM/H.

Google it and you will find videos that show the features.

MHD flash is a tune flash that can up the performance of the engine. Turbo engines are normally under-tuned by the factory and these open up some of the power left to be had while still staying in a safe area.

Auto manufacturers tune the engine so that it is 50 state emissions legal and leave it be. Most of these tunes will cause you to fail tests if your state performs them.

MHD Flash comes with off the shelf maps that provide incrementally more aggressive tunes (Stage 1, Stage 1+, Stage 2, Stage 2+) as well as the ability to upload your own custom tune if you want to go that route. MHD stage 1 mirrors ESS Stage 1 from my experience. So the answer is yes, and for a cheaper price.

I presently use the ESS cable to tune using MHD Flash app as well as iCarly. So another yes.

Thanks for all you answers. At 60 years old, I don't think I need to go any faster than what the factory set it to so I think I will pass on the MHD but that Smart Top Module sounds like something I can use. I will look into it.

Thanks again,

Paul.

For me, the tune is more than just power. It is the throttle response I like the most.

Great, I still have my ESS cable.

Not sure I am impressed with the carly coding stuff yet. I code my F15 and I have many more options to code with E-Sys software.
