Emergency close Hardtop
Hi guys and gals. I just picked up my first 2015 Z4 35i. While I do have a lot of questions that I can probably find answers to in the manual, this one is no where in there. What happens if I have the top down and I loose power, or have a malfunction. How do you get the top back up? Is there a way to manually get it back up?

I don't believe so, based off of when mine got stuck halfway open. Bmw just had it towed to them, I don't believe there is a way, If there is, I'd love to know too

There's no way to manually close the top. One of the wires in the harness broke and my roof got stuck halfway. If it had been raining ...don't wanna think about it.
So now I carry a tarp and bungee cords. Just waiting for the day.

Thanks. UGH! I don't want to think about it either. Don't have a garage. Unbelievable that they didn't think of having an emergency closing procedure.

There is a manual way. It just isn't reasonable.
Requires a long tool that reaches up the side of the hinges to release something. Then manually lifting the heavy top up and over then disconnecting some rods. |

Online is much easier to use than this PDF.

There is a manual way to get the roof up, slightly easier in US than UK cars, as we don't have the "kidnap" release handle in the trunk.
If the boot is up you can pull handle and the lid unlocks and can be pushed up. I did mod on my car to do this with lid in any posn. Lift the lid to access the pump under floor. There are two brass hex sockets. Fwd one is roof, the rear the trunk. Prop the trunk up, turn the fwd brass hex and that drops pressure, the roof can be lift up and over. Stand behind with the trunk up, one person can push the roof over, i did. Next the rear hex and the trunk lid will lower. Push the glass panel into posn. Non of it is locked but at least you get at the components to repair. Last edited by bigendbob; 03-19-2021 at 05:28 PM.. |
