Fun with Tires
I am tire hunting, I have narrowed my choices down to these two, one you will recognize as a board favorite;
MICHELIN PILOT SPORT A/S 3+ (W- OR Y-SPEED RATED) CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 The Tire Rack test and comments support both as being great tires, Now I know the Pilots are a board favorite but what bout the EXtremecontact does anyone have any experience with them? Thankz4

Pilot super sports are a common tire in this forum, not A/S 3. You give up a lot with all season.

You may give up some grip in summer, but you gain at least 2 more seasons you can drive comfortably in with the A/S 3+. In any case, any non-RFT is going to feel so much better than the Bridgestones.
BTW, I went with the A/S 3+ from Costco when they were having $75off and another $50off for executive members. Couldn't be happier, and don't mind driving in the rain either. Not sure about the continental, but with Michelin you get roadside assistance for a few years too. |

AS3 have 500 thread wear, grip like cleats, and are comfortable. The PSS perform the same "when new", but have less thread wear rating. When the thread gets low on the PSS they make A LOT of road noise, the AS3 tires do not exhibit this.

I had the extremecontact dws and IMO they are great tires. winter driving is amazing.
but all tires are great when they are new so I really could not tell since I can't compare them to stock. the stock ones I had where worn. |

I went with the CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 and they are quite nic, better ride than the run flats, and they do quite nicely in the rain, which is something we have had a lot of lately,... with more on the way so it seems.

My first post on you'lls forum.
I post on quite a few other forums on different cars. 2013 3.0i and have been pretty pleased with it during the summer months. Cool weather caused it to spend 4 months in the shop before we got it back. We need to replace the RFT on the rear. I am planning on non-RFT's and read that you should not mix the run flats with the non. Is this a position agreed by most here? |

I have driven both back to back in an autocross environment.
Most notable is steering feedback between the two. DWS06 is on the softer side and A/S 3+ is quicker on response. Similar wet grip but the DWS06 did suffer from more fish scaling wear on the shoulder block tread.

When talking to Tire RAck about new tires they recommended 3 tires, 2 have been mentioned on this thread.
For a summer performance tire he said the Firestone tire. Only problem with that tire is the wear, he said about 20K on the rears. I know my wife would balk at that and he suggested the Continental DWS-06 as a longer wearing performance tire. And if my wife balks at buying 4 ...the new Bridgestone RFT has a good ride in their test he said

Planned on the DW-06's and went in to tell my tire place we were going to bring them in.
After discussing with them they switched me to the RFT's. They said the ride is really good, about as good as a regular tire, even the guy at TR thought so too. They matched the TR price and told me if I didn't like the ride bring them back in a month and they'll switch them to the Continentals. I know my wife will feel better with the RFT's... and that's most of the battle

The Bridgestone Driveguards are on and I have a 2 hour trip to Columbia on Sat. Will have impressions after that.
