Check Eng Light

2011 Z4 3.0i M/T - Driving on the interstate this afternoon. Low on fuel - about 1/8 registered on the fuel gauge. First display warned of low fuel. Couple of miles later check engine light displayed. Any correlation or just a coincidence?

A couple of years back I added some fuel injector cleaner to a nearly empty gas tank and the check engine light displayed. The local BMW dealer cleared the light but could not identify problem. Covered under warranty.

Has anyone experienced similar problems or have any insights? I assume there is a sensor monitoring fuel mixture/level?
Thanks

Coincidence, I'm sure. BTW, fuel treatment is designed to be added with a full tank of gas. Every 5K is a good interval.

Funny. Just had my check engine come on yesterday. Took it in this morning and was an O2 sensor. Out of warranty though...$225 plus the cost of the scan $140.

Too bad too...trading in the car in December...oh well. First time I've spent a nickel on this car in 5 seasons, other than fuel and insurance.

Check the codes. Did you go into limp mode? I doubt that it has anything to do with your fuel. Probably O2, plugs, injector or coil.

Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the question on limp mode: No, car performs fine. Dave ("BMW"), just curious - How many miles on your car requiring the O2 sensor?

Hi. That was 28,000 miles (or 45,000kms).
