At first I thought it was the DCT trying to relearn itself, but it's been that way since. I find myself playing the paddles more often to put it in the proper gear. Otherwise there is a slight but noticeable shudder. BTW this only happens in normal mode. In Sport mode, all seems fine.
No clue, I only drive it in Manual, the way God intended .

I dropped off my car at dealer today and they thought they can get it done by today if is the transmission oil pan gasket but they found out is the rubber ring right next to it. They said the parts only cost $20 but the labor cost over $1000 since they have to remove a lot of stuff to get to there (exhaust and etc) Also, he mentioned the rubber ring is updated version.

Got my car back today and seems everything is good.

This is what dealer replaced "O-ring" "http://parts.bmwofbridgewater.com/p/BMW__M4/O-ring/43770632/28607849555.html"

Part number - 28-60-7-849-555

This is the comment from their receipt. "Found transmission fluid leaking from trans electrical connector seal O-ring down to the ground. Removed and reinstalled transmission, removed and replaced trans electrical connector seal o-ring. Topped off 1 quart of transmission fluid.

Only cost $30 but the labor cost over $1000

Hope this is some helpful info for other members.

sorry to hear that. Is the O-ring or the pan gasket?

I went back and looked at my records and my DCT was leaking form the Hydraulic cover plate gasket on the side of the transmission.

There are two pans - the bottom one and the hydraulic cover one - both of mine started leaking and were replaced last year. No problems since. My car is a 2009.4 model.

bit of a thread revival this one but looks like my DCT is / was also leaking

Noticed a big oil stain on the under tray , had the tray off and cannot feel any side of the gaskets which are noticeably oily , I can see the odd drip off oil

Leak looks old looking at the undertray , may clean it and see how I get on

My question is if oil has been lost from the DCT will I be damaging anything ? is there sensors for low oil ? , can the oil be changed easily ?

Last pic has some oil in a thread , looks like something has either sprayed or dripped down from the side of the DCT ?

There's a fill hole to top it off but it's not as straight forward as topping off other oils. Automatic transmission fills are temperature dependent. Too involved to explain here. Look it up.

Subscribed since I had this prb before. They had to replace the entire pan/gasket twice. Should be good now *knock wood*.

Did Lambobimmer(sp?) say that he had the ENTIRE tranny replaced due to a leak? What was that all about?

I have no idea why BMW made it such a PITA re transmission fluid maintenance. What a joke.

It's no more a PIA then changing the fluid in any BMW AT. Drain, take off and replace the pan/filter, fill. Transmission fluid expands when hot so doing a cold fill will result in overfilling. You want simple with no mechanical issues? That's called 6MT.

You just had to slip in that MT thing in there, huh?

It's more complicated than it should be esp w/ that frequent leakage prb. Still prefer 1 extra gear and faster shifts.

Try tightening the bolts slightly but not too tight. That may stop the leak if it is only minor and buy you some more time. Not much has been lost - I think total = 9 litres. Monitor it. The gasket has probably gone but if it doesnt leak anymore then thats great.

It would appear our DCT is made out of swiss cheese. My side pan has developed a leak and it was repaired 3 times to no avail.

After the 3rd time, the leak stopped for a while but came back after an outstation drive for about 1,200 km at a somewhat spirited pace.

The leak is very minor, a weep, without any dripping onto the undercovers. Workshop says not to worry and check transmission oil levels once a year should be fine.

Don't know if I'm comfortable with leaving it like this or get it fixed again. What do you guys think?

Cheers,
Howie
