Yes it is more luxurious. It is targeting the SLK audience. The more sporty E85 did not sell well and was a big flop for BMW. If they want to change this, why would they develop a successor and make it equally or even more sporty? But this has been discussed for some time now. Please don't feel offended but we have been past this type of discussion for some time now. Why start it all over again? |

ok, whoever said bmw wasnt aiming for the boxster is dead wrong. They may be positioned closer to the SLK and over the TT as opposed to before, but this is a $45,000+ bare bones roadster without even power seats. They are very much looking to lure buyers away from the porsche lot.

In Europe there is a considerable price difference between the two (and if you believe the reviews also in terms of handling). If BMW was targeting the Boxster, then why does the internal marketing material only compare the Z4 against the SLK and TT??? Because these are the products they are targeting. Believe it, the Boxster crowd is not the target (and they know why). They go for Merc and Audi. |

The new Z4 seems aimed at that luxury market as well. I don't think Porsche Boxster or 911 is the target because sports car performance is not the priority emphasis. Luxury is.

This has also lead some former Z4 (E85) owners to the term: ZLK for the new E89 (since they wanted another soft top instead of the hard top and are now disappointed ) |

Sporty and hardtop convertible are hard concepts to combine. I think BMW did an awesome job with the new z4 and I am a s2000 fan. Like some other posters have said, this z4 focuses on being a fast cruiser instead of the half cruiser-half miataish e8* z4. Lets just hope that the z2 will satisfy the sports roadster lovers among us (preferably with a high revving i4 a la s2000).

I think the price/performance made it clear this car is a status symbol, I dunno why people are suprised by it not having sportscar handling.

Big Flop?? How do you arrive at that conclusion?? Here in London there are dozens and dozens of them. It was a huge success and many owners love them. Sure they aren't perfect, but neither it seems is the new car, yet its supposed to be a improvement ...

Yeah, and they'll have experience under their belts (or dresses?) with the X5 & X6 bloatmobiles, so maybe they can tame this pig. I'm guessing NOT.
