James May on convertibles
I thought you might enjoy reading this as much as I did:

i dont agree, stupid last point. having a convertible i can say that it is more of a magnet then anything else (as he mentioned, performance, sound, stereo etc...)

I feel bad for the Ferrari driver who got water bomb attacked. That's so much unnecessary hate right there. |

I can tell you all it's great to have the best of both worlds (a little dream garage) I wish that you all be in a position one day to experiance the same.
When I feel like it in the summer time I'll take my little 280 SL with the top down for a country road run enjoying the sunshine and the fresh air .... On the other hand when the weather is so so ... I take my ///M3 for a spin in the fast lane I like to think of it as something new and something old ... BTW my Pagoda celebrates the 50st Anniversary this year.

Mid life crises, bald and has a convertible? If that's the case, between the convertibles and the motorcycles, I have been in a mid life crises from the time I was 16 until now in my 60's except I wasn't bald at 16!

No idea what James wrote in his article. All I know is that I initially didn't like convertibles because they were usually heavier, had ragtops, cost more and didn't perform as well as their coupe counterparts. I also didn't get the open top for the 'look-at-me!' factor, actually, I feel quite self-conscious whenever the roof's down and don't really like the added attn vs a reg car. However, I do now appreciate open top driving because mainly I like to hear the engine more. I couldn't care less about the 'open feel' and hate the wind blowing in my hair, though. So, it's more of(only?) an aural experience for me, why I like my convertible.
Oh, anyone that touches another man's car unprovoked/unjustified should get an automatic death penalty, Judge Dredd style. I'm almost srs on this pt. It's disgusting. |

Interesting because with the top down, I hear the exhaust more then the engine, and vice versa with the top up.
