Top Hall Sensor Question
Hi Everyone (and RobbiZ4 )
Does the hydraulic cylinder on the right side of the trunk have 1 or 2 hall sensors? There appear to be spaces for 2 to clip in. See image. Thanks! |

I think I've answered my own question based on another forum. There are 2 hall sensors.
Follow up question. Does a replacement OEM top harness include the hall sensors or are they separate? |

Hi Bryan,
Yes, there are 2 hall sensors on the right hydraulic cylinder, none on the left. The front one next to the piston is responsible for the short delay when closing the boot lid. The rear one detects a completely opened boot lid. None of them is included in the harness, as they do have their own part numbers. |

Thanks Robbi! Great info, as usual.
What does the hall sensor that is on the cylinder in the roof package detect? I know the last one is in the floor and detects the partition. |

@RobbiZ4
Has anyone ever written out the full opening and closing sequences detailing what is happening during each part of the process and why (with hall sensor and microswitch triggering, etc)? That would be really valuable info! |

There are in total 4 hall sensors mounted on hydraulic cylinders. Each of the same type and partno. Last edited by RobbiZ4; 08-02-2021 at 03:21 AM.. |

The fifth one is sitting in the boot to detect the position of the luggage compartment. This hall sensor is a completely different part with a partno of its own.

RobbiZ4 hoping you can shed some light on this.
I have fault code A694. When using the BMW fault decoder, it says: Microswitch 'cowl panel reached' Can you explain what this means and what would need to be replaced to fix the fault? Thanks! |

https://bmwfault.codes/ From the result list take the explanation for the correct ECU, in our case "ctm_89". You have identified the correct description and the correct location B. It's the microswitch on top of the windshield on the right. There is only one microswitch, not a pair. Issues with this microswitch are very very rare, so I'm wondering what might have happened to it? Any experiments with grease, oil or WD40 on it?? Last edited by RobbiZ4; 01-10-2023 at 02:58 AM..
