6-Disc DVD Changer - order it, or not?

I am placing my order tomorrow for a 2013 Z4 35is... Black with the Black Alcantara leather combination...

I am debating on if I should order it with or without the 6-Disc DVD Changer. Is there a hidden benefit to having it, or am I throwing away $600 for this option?

Thanks in advance!

I personally did not order it. IMO, the 12GB internal storage, iPhone connectivity and USB port (not to mention the built in DVD slot) are more than enough. I'm not sure you get the internal storage and DVD slot without nav, though.

We have the 6 DVD player in our Z4 with the Nav and never use it with all of the other storage options mentioned above. It does take up some precious storage at the top of the glove box too.

DVD slot is not available on new cars because of the navigation being software based and no longer DVD based.

In addition, why do you need 6 DVD's in a convertible 2 seater? So you can park in the woods and watch porn ALL night without any hassles?

If you are going to use it just for your music CD's, don't. Much more convenient to just let the car read the CD's and store them on your hard drive in the car.

If you have audio DVD's or actually want movies, it may be worthwhile.

I have had a hard drive in my other car for about 2 years before I got it in the Z4 -- the Z4 is the first car where I actually use it.

This is incorrect. I have a 2012 without a changer and have a DVD slot.

It amazes me how assumption becomes fact for many. The single slot in the dash is a DVD/cd player.

I must admit, I ordered it and given the other options (USB dmusic download + i-pod interface) I hardly ever use it.

Got a whole bunch of CDs jammed in it once, took me ages to reset it all and get them out....

Save a lot (cost me £455!!!!!) of money and don't bother.....

Jeez, I wish I hadn't look at the original order now.....that's a crazy price.

The other thing that has become 'fact' is that the outside antenna we all replace with a stubby is for AM. It is actually the second of three FM antennae.

I have noticed bad FM hd reception with the stubby on mine, but this is just my sense. Goes in and out of hd often when passing through streets with tall buildings.

Also just to mention another option that is a complete waste of money IMO is BMW apps. I never use it.

I vote not.

How often do you need to watch DVDs for mulitple hours while sitting in the car?

You have to ger DVD Free anyway to have the car move while they are playing.
Then you have to ask why you are driving while they are playing anyway?
TO entertain a passenger?

Buy an iPad. Cheaper, removable from the car, and a lot less likely todistract the driver while driving.
(and you can fit it in the glove box when you dont option the 6 DVD changer!)

Thanks for all the replies - consider my original question resolved.

I have ordered --- with EVERYTHING added except the DVD changer... Production number issued... now waiting for the date to book the trip to Munich! Can't wait!

Here's the best product I've found for the USB port. 16gb, fairly cheap and very small. It doesn't block the rear most cupholder when in use.

I ripped 10 CDs over the weekend into 320kpbs 44.100 kHz AAC format and it was about 0.2gb per CD.

Oh nice, thanks. I'm gonna pick one of those up.
