Backup camera on iDrive screen?

How easy would it be to install a camera tucked up near the rear plate lights and is the iDrive system easy to add a camera to?

How competent are you at removing the iDrive to get to the rear connections, wiring through the car and affixing a camera to the rear of the car? Its that simple if you're good with that sort of thing as the inputs exist. Though you may also need the car coding for it to 'see' the camera.

Sounds doable, but there's probably a lot of swearing involved

I have one of those rear plate holders with integrated camera and LEDs lying about, and I can't park to save my life, even with sensors sometimes.

I'm in touch with my feminine side.

Awesome!

Which particular interface is needed or do all cameras come with the right software? Is it possible to get the guide lines for parallel parking too (would have to link to the steering position sensor somehow)?

Would like to do this as well. What interface are you referring to and how do we get one?

Alekshop sells a module that works with the Z series (http://alekshop.com)

I know it's not officially listed as compatible for the Z series, but there were two previous Z forum members that had his module for the rear view camera. You may want to contact Alekshop directly to see what the option is.

Take a look here:

I suppose a front camera can easily be mounted below the license plate, at least on the non M Sport bumper.

Has anybody here fitted a front camera?
