fuel mileage indicator - accurate?

You know the one that gives you the 'instantaneous' fuel mileage depending on how much you press the gas pedal? I'm not sure if mine is still acting up. Whenever I accelerate, it is accurate because the # goes up, but when I let go of the gas pedal, the # still goes up for a few seconds before going to 0: is this normal?

Yes it is normal. It is as accurate as it can get for software driven results. The problem is that the instant mileage indicator is not reliable. Over a larger distance it can be so your distance to empty is a bit better but still off by a bit.

So when I'm pressing the brake and the # still goes up before going to 0, it's still normal? The reason I raised this is because I though that it was super-accurate before and never noticed the # going up before, so wonder if I have a glitch now.

Yes, it makes sense. You are coasting to a stop, so no load on the engine, results in large MPG figure. The number should go up from the time you let off the accelerator until the car comes to a stop.
