ipod always dead for first few mins..
so my iPod Classic lives in my car, and 95% of the time when i turn my car on my iPod is dead. after a couple of minutes of driving the car charges my iPod enough so that I can play it.
This same iPod in my e92 never had a problem?! I have even changed the battery in my iPod and checked the settings to make sure it sleeps after a couple of seconds. It seems even after my car is shutdown (after i lock the car) the ipod stays on??? does anyone else have this problem?

I have the same thing. It takes a while to scan the device and hash the contents. It caches the hashes for smaller collections but once you exceed about 7000, it seems to rescan each time.

I used to leave my iPod 5th gen in my 335i console - always connected and in the leather pouch provided. Down here in FL the temp gets in the upper 90's and after several months here one day my iPod was so hot when I got in the car you could not touch it.... A few days later the device was FRIED from the heat. Now I just use a 16G thumb drive in my Z4 and it works the same way as the iPod with no temperature issue and is a lot cheaper....

Probably in a similar vein, I am using a USB stick for music in my Z4. It has over 5GB music on it. It probably takes around 2 minutes to come to live having entered the car, a bit annoying.
Very occasionally it kicks right in, which is odd. Haven't figured that one out, and it is definitely not because the car was driven within the past few minutes. A quick pit stop leads to the same delay normally. |

I got the ipod interface after I got the car.....It takes 30 second to scan my ipod 80Gb.....I can use it like the cd changer......when i select cd1, playlist it takes 3-5 seconds to play music or display something on the radio ....also when I go from cd1-playlist to cd2-authors, it takes 3-5 seconds.....but I think that it is normal....
on e90 forums I read something about the dead ipod....and found that the culprit was the interface that , somewhat, did not understood that ipod was there and plugged in.....they put a new interface, to no avail..... (I am talikng about cars with no idrive.....dunno about cars with idrive....) Francesco |
