Auto-dimming mirrors
I just discovered something I find kind of curious, it seems that side mirrors have a 0.1" border, which does not dim, around the dimming area.
Does anybody know why it is designed this way? I am just curious and can not find anything about it in the manual or the brochure. |

I cant say for sure, but in most smart glass applications, there is a conductive border for the electricity supply to the tinting film that surrounds the outer edge.
My main beef with the tinting mirrors is that they darken up when it gets dark - and not when there is a set of headlights behind you. It makes it impossible to see anything but headlights in them at nighttime. (ie impossible to see anything in them while reversing) Every other car brand I have had with dimming mirrors only darkens the mirror when they detect a set of bright headlights behind you.

Dr. Stig 2 you might have a problem with your mirrors. I have the mirror dim option and they only get dark when the light reflected on them is medium to strong. This includes if I am parking under a spot light or anything deemed strong light (not necessarily only rear car headlights ...)

Thanks - I'll get them to check it. I had just written it off as a bad design.
